What is near-death karma?VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
Is that mind the past or the present mind? If that mind is being practiced every day and always tranquil, then NOW can not work, let alone is near-death karma ...
The Nikaya Sutta Pitaka gives us a clear idea of rebirth. In the past, there was a rich man in Vuong Xa citadel, but only a single son. This boy is very likable and very handsome image. His parents were very loving, pampered and did not want to give him any hardship for anything.
Therefore, they thought that: “Studying, whether learning literate or career, must also be laborious. It takes a lot of time and effort to study until it becomes successful. But in the end, it is just to get a living career. Now our husband and wife are rich, unspeakable wealth of gold and silver, even if our children sit still and eat for a lifetime, they can not be exhausted, so there is no need for him to study hard. " And so, until the time when his son was an adult, they still did not allow him to study at all, just knew how to enjoy it all the time! When he was sixteen, they married him a beautiful wife. But unfortunately, this lady is not a wise and virtuous person. Therefore, the young couple immersed in the sensual pleasures, enjoying every day of the fun. Before long, both the rich man and his wife died respectively. The boy was used to the extravagant lifestyle, continued throwing money through the window with endless fun with the dancers, children, tea parties. Therefore, not as predicted by the rich man and his wife, he will "sit idle and eat all his life".
On the contrary, he dissipated the great fortune of his parents in a very short time! So you became poor. And since there was no job in his hand, he only had one way to manage his life to find old acquaintances to borrow. But then no one can loan him forever when he really did not do anything to live on, let alone be able to save money to repay the debt. Then the creditors gradually became impatient enough to wait, sharing their possessions like houses and gardens as well as all the rest of the house.
So the beloved son of the richest man in Vuong Xa, now becomes a homeless beggar, wandering around the city. Then one day, a professional thief met him on the street. Seeing that he was in good health and pretending to be honest, he thought that he could take advantage of it, so he told him: “Hey uncle, your life is really miserable and pitiful. I have nothing to help you, but if you will follow me, work with me, you will be able to earn enough money to live comfortably. ” In the middle of the road, and being a person who never experienced life, he did not doubt immediately agree to follow the thief.
That night, the thieves organized a grand theft. They gave him a stick and arranged him to stand guard outside while they sneaked into a rich man's house to carry out his things. They told him: "If anyone from outside wants to come in, stop and beat him to death." Having been in a situation where he could no longer regress, he passed by the day, not to say that he could save up the debt. Then the creditors gradually no longer have the patience to wait, they share the property he has kept as houses, gardens as well as all the remaining furniture.

They told him: "If anyone from outside wants to come in, stop and beat him to death." Having been in a situation where he could no longer regress, he had many memorable jokes. The prostitute suddenly moved her heart to remember the past love, took pity on the ill-fated boy, immediately asked the sender to send him a delicious meal and water. She brought the money back to the guards and begged them to let the offenders be leisurely to finish the last meal before being executed.
At the same time, Mr. Maudgalyayana, a great disciple of the Buddha, was also in the royal palace. He observed with the celestial eye the perilous situation of the dying death row inmate, as well as understanding the story of this person. Moved with compassion, he immediately thought: “This man has not created any negative karma, but he has never done any good deeds. Therefore, he cannot be reborn in beautiful realms. Now we should create conditions for him to start a good concept, do a good thing before he dies. That way, he will be able to be reborn in the celestial realm. ”
Thinking so, Mr. Maudgalyayana immediately appeared in front of the sinner at the time when people brought food to him and told him that it was Sulas's gift. At that time, the boy saw a solemn monk respectfully appearing from afar, suddenly saw in his heart a joy of lightness that was hard to describe. He immediately thought: "I am about to die, is this meal useful? If only we should make offerings to the other monk so that we can have some blessing. " Thinking about that, he immediately asked the guards to bring food and water to make offerings to the monk. Mr. Mu-kien-Lien realized that the boy's suffering due to the initiation of the offering made him happy. He sat down to receive the meal and dedicate his prayer to him and then left. The boy was later executed. Before his death, thanks to his faithfulness to Elder Maudgalyāyana as well as to the offering of meals to an Arahant, he had enough merit to be reborn in heaven. However, just before his death, his soul was moved to think of Sulas and her sincere affection for him when he was about to die, a strong attachment to love, and due to this bondage he did not being reborn in the celestial realm. Instead,
The above story shows the important effect of the human mind just before death, because this can contribute to the decision on which realm of mind will be reborn in the next life. Buddhist term called this "near death industry" , Where did that mind come from? Is it because of the daily actions of the Body and Speech, guys? Is that mind the past or the present mind? If that mind is being practiced every day and always pure, then the Karma cannot also work, let alone the near-death karma?
