Mindfulness of death.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
1. Mindfulness of death is one of the 10 possible thoughts that can lead to enlightenment and liberation.
- "There is a law, the Bhikkhu-khưu, is cultivated, made to fullness, leading to the most boring direction, the greed, the cessation, calm, victory, enlightenment, Nirvana. What was a law? It is the recitation of Buddha ... reciting the Dharma ... reciting the Sangha ... reciting the Precepts ... reciting the Contemplation ... reciting the Angel ... reciting the Breathing breath, exhaling the breath ... reciting the Death ... reciting the Body ... Recite An Tinh.
It is a law, the Bhikkhu-khưu, is cultivated, made to fullness, leading to the most boring direction, the glass of greed, the cessation, calm, victory, enlightenment, Nirvana ".
2. Mindfulness of Death (Thanh Tinh Dao, Commentator Buddhaghosa)
Practice reciting death frequently, as instructed in the book of Pure Land. In brief:
- A person who wants to practice this custom, must go into solitary residence and practice the mind in a wise manner as follows: "Death will happen, life will be interrupted", or: "Death, death" .. .. Practitioners should look here and there, those who have been killed or have died, and have an influence on the death of the dead sentient beings who have previously seen them enjoy the pleasures, think so with mindfulness, with a sense of urgency and knowledge, then the practitioner can influence: "Death will occur, the life will be interrupted". In doing so, he practices the mindfulness of dying. Meaning that he practices death anniversary as a justified means.
When a person practices mindfulness of death like that, then the hindrances of them are subdued, the mindfulness is dwell with death as the object, and the object of meditation, reaching the concentration.
- Those who realize that death anniversary doesn't go that far, then recite death in eight ways: (1) The appearance of a murderer, (2) Successful bankruptcy, (3) Compare, (4) The body is shared with many sentient beings, (5) A fragile life, (6) The formless, (7) The limitations of life, (8) The transience of death.
(1) There is the appearance of a murderer: He should think like this: "Just as a murderer appears with a sword, I think I will cut off this man's head, and then put the sword to his neck, also So, death appears like that. " Why? Because death comes with birth and death takes life. This death, accompanied by birth, is like a murderer with a ready sword. And like a murderer holding a sword to his neck, death loses life and never brings it back. Therefore, death appears as a murderer with a ready sword, when it has been accompanied by birth and takes life, we have to think of death "as a murderer".
(2) Like bankruptcy success: Thinking of death as "like bankruptcy of all careers", by seeing death as the ultimate bankruptcy of all successes in the world - including health, youth.
(3) By comparing to comparing oneself with others: Here, death should be thought of by comparing in 7 categories: compared to people with great fame, great merit, great power, magical power great, great wisdom, with Pratyekabuddha and with Buddhas. All must die.
(As for me personally, whenever I go to a funeral or be told someone dies, I go there, quietly watch the dead, thinking that one day, sooner or later, I also like this ...)
(4) About the sharing of the body with many beings: This body is shared by many sentient beings . In this body, there are various types of living beings clinging to to live. And there they grow old, die, urinate excretion, the body is their maternity home, is their nursing home, their cemetery, their defecation, urination. The body can also die to a rebellion of these insects. Not only is this body shared with insects, but it is also shared with hundreds of internal diseases and many causes of external death such as centipedes, scorpions, etc.
(5) Regarding the fragility of life: this life is powerless and fragile. And human life is associated with the breath, associated with the majesty of walking and sitting, associated with cold and heat, associated with the four elements, attached to food.
Life only occurs when the in and out breath is regular. But when the wind in the nostrils went out without coming back in, and when it came in without coming back out, then a man was said to be dead.
Life is only there, when the four majesty is harmonized, when one of the four majesty dominates the other three, the life is interrupted.
Life is only available when the air conditioner is hot and cold. When it's too hot or too cold, people can't live.
Life also happens when the four conditioning. But with the disorder of a great, even a strong person can die.
And life also happens only in a person who gets timely food, if not eaten, then ceases to live.
(6) Signless: meaning indefinable, unpredictable.
Life has no generals, because it is impossible to determine the following: have to live around that time, not more.
The disease has no general, because it is not possible to be as follows: sentient beings die only for one disease, for no other disease. Beings often die of all sorts of diseases.
Time has no generals, because it is impossible to determine that one must die at this time, not at another time. Because sentient beings can die at any time, noon and evening.
The place where the body will be laid down also has no generals, because it is impossible to assume that, when people die, they must let their corpses lie in this place, nowhere else. Because people born in the village may die to see them outside the village, people born outside the village may die to see them in the village. Likewise, some are born on water, and die to die on the earth, and some are born on earth. Similar in many ways.
Fate is also not general, because it is impossible to assume that a dead person there must be reborn in this place. Because some people die from the celestial realm and be reborn in the human realm, there are dead people in the human world who are reborn in the heavens and so on. The cow is attached to a machine.
(7) The limits of human life: The human world today has a short limit. A long-lived person also lives only around one hundred years old.
Therefore the Blessed One said, "Bhikkhus-khưu, human life is short. There is a new life to go, there are good karma to do, and a virtuous life to be lived. For what was born, there's no story of no death"And the Bhikkhu-khưu, when a Bhikkhu-khưu practice meditation concept of death as follows: Hope that we live time chewing to swallow a piece of food, affecting the teachings of the Blessed One, so we have done much". When a Bhikkhu-khưu practice reciting the following death: "Hope that we live around the breath in and out, or during the breath in and out, the influence of the teachings of the Blessed One, so we have done much ". These are called Bhikkhu-khưu stay in essential, sharp practice of death mindfulness to kill the illegal or "
The life is so short that it is not sure whether it will last for about three or five pieces. This is death thought by thinking of the brief moment.
(8) About the shortness of character in moments: After all, the life of sentient beings is extremely short in only one thought. Like the wheel, when rolling only rolling on one point and resting only on one point - the point of contact with the ground, likewise, the life of sentient beings lasts only about one thought. When that thought has passed, the being is said to have ended, as the following quote: "In a past thought it lived, then it was not present in the present, nor in the future. In a future thought it will live, then say there is no present or the past. And in the present thought, it is alive, then it is not present in the past or the future . "
Conclude:
A practitioner who dies, always needs diligence He has no attachment to any kind of being. He conquered the attachment to life. He criticized the evil law. He avoids hoarding much wealth. He was not defiled by greed for things. The notion of impermanence gradually develops in that mind, and the following is the thought of suffering and non-self. While for those who have not practiced mindfulness of death, their thoughts are often victims of fear, fear, confusion at the time of death, as if they were suddenly caught by wild beasts, caught by demons, snatched by snakes, bandits or murderers come, then cultivators die in reverse, die consciously without delusion, without fear, without falling into any of such conditions. And even if he does not attain immortality right now, at least he will look forward to a good realm when his body is broken.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.21/3/2020.
