Lesson 2: SEVEN THE BUDDHIST QUESTION ABOUT THE MIND.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.
Before wanting to be merely mindful, Buddha asked the mind of disappointment. When understanding the mind then, then later on only the feet of the Buddha will not be mistaken. Just like people, before distinguishing between brass, copper and fake gold, the latter only came to real gold, they received it for sure, so before Buddha asked about the Mind.
Buddha asked Ananda to say,
- In our Dharma, what do you admire about being a monk?
Ananda ladies:
- Because the Buddha has 32 extraordinary good generals, the birth of the heart should give birth to mind renunciation.
Buddha asked:
- He said: "Because you see the 32 good generals of Buddha, born of admiration"; So, what do you take to see, and what to admire?
Ananda ladies:
- I took my eyes to see and use my admiration.
Buddha asked:
- He said, "Take the eye to see and the mind admires," so do you know where the mind and the eye are?
He from any time to now, many lives and samsara, also for the mind and eyes! If he did not know where it was, then he could never surrender to mundane afflictions.
Like the king, being invaded by the enemy, bringing the soldiers to eliminate, if not known where the enemy resides, they can never clear the enemy.
I. A HEAD OF MIND IN THE BODY
Ananda ladies:
- World Religion, not only I understand, but all beings also give "the eye on the face, and the mind in the body."
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked:
- He sat in this lecture hall, first he saw what? And why do you see the trees in the garden?
Ananda ladies:
-World Religion, I sat in the lecture hall, before seeing the Buddha with the monks, and thanks to opening the doors, I looked out, saw the trees, the scenery outside.
Buddha asked:
- Does anyone sit inside, not seeing things in the house, but outside scenery?
Ananda ladies:
-World Religion, who sat in the house, but did not see the things in the house, saw the scenery outside is not reasonable.
Buddha says:
- His mind, too, if it really is in his body, then it must first see the heart, liver, intestines, lungs or nails out, long hair, tendons, arteries in, and then after opening his eyes, he is new see the outside scenes. Just like the person sitting in this lecture hall, he must first see Buddha with them and the objects in the lecture hall, then look outside, then see the mountains, forests, trees, etc.
So has anyone seen the heart, liver, intestines, lungs in the body, and then later see things outside? If not, then he said: "The mind is in the body" is absurd.
II. A NAN HAPPY CENTER ABROAD
Ananda white Buddha:
- White World Religion, according to the above argument, I understand: the mind is outside the body. Because if the mind is inside the body, why can't we see the things inside, but only the external sights? So I know the mind is outside the body. Just like a lamp on the outside of the house, it doesn't work well inside. This meaning is right, probably no longer misleading.
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked Ananda:
- His mind, if outside the body, his body and mind are not connected. So while the mind knows, the body must not know; When the body knows, the mind must not know.
Just like me and the monks, because of our different bodies, when we are boys, the teachers are not satisfied.
So you try to see my arm here, while the eyes ( body ) he just saw, his mind knows immediately?
Ananda ladies:
-World Religion, while the eyes just saw, the mind immediately differentiated.
Buddha asked:
- If his eyes have just seen, his mind knows immediately, the body and mind can not be separated. Thus, he said: "The mind is outside the body" is not.
III. A NAN HAPPENS MIND IN EYES
Ananda ladies:
- Buddha World Religion, according to the Buddha: "The mind is not in the body, because it cannot see inside; nor is it outside the body, because the eyes ( body ) have just seen, the mind knows immediately, the body and mind do not leave each other ”.
Following this argument, I understand: The mind lurks in the eye; as well as the eyes of the glasses wearer, so he sees only the external sights, but not the inside.
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked Ananda:
- If his mind is hiding in the eyes, just like the eyes of a person with glasses; so I asked, "People who wear glasses while they see the scenery, can they see the glasses?"
Ananda ladies:
- World Religion, see.
Buddha asked:
- If your mind is like the eye of a person who wears glasses, then how can the person who wears glasses can see the glasses, and why his mind can't see his eyes?
If his mind sees his eye, then his eye becomes a sight, it must be outside his body.
If the body and mind are apart, then how can his eyes see, his mind immediately distinguish?
If his mind cannot see his eyes, then why is he like a human eye with glasses?
So he said, "The mind lurks in the eye, just like the eye of a person wearing glasses behind an ant", is not it.
IV. HE ABANDED BACK, MIND IN THE BODY
Ananda ladies:
- White World Religion, now I think: Close your eyes to see dark, is the mind that sees in the body ( intestines ); thanks to the complaints, vented ventures ( senses ) are empty, so the eye is open to see the mind outside the body. Do not know this meaning is true?
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked Ananda:
- He said: "Close your eyes and see the darkness in your body"; So when he saw it, was the scene in front of him?
If the darkness is not immediate, then it does not mean the seeing. And for the eyes, when seeing the darkness, he saw it first, why did he say that he saw it?
If he showed me that he saw darkness in his body (inside his intestines ), when he was in the dark house without light, he saw that night and saw his gut as well?
Again, if you close your eyes to see dark, you think that you see inside the body, if you open your eyes and see the light outside, then why can't you see your face?
The face outside, he opened his eyes did not see, then when closed eyes see dark, how to make sure that the body?
If he sees his face, then the eye with his knowing mind, must be outside his body.
If the mind and the eyes are outside the body, then it is not his mind.
If you give the mind, that eye (other than your body ) is also you, then now we can see your face, then we are also your mind and eyes?
Again, while his eyes know, his body must not know, when his body knows, then his eyes must not know ( because he accepts it apart ).
If you let both of you know, then you must have only two knowing ( mind ), so when you practice fruitfulness, you will become two Buddhas?
So must know: He said: "see the dark see in the body" is not.
V. A NAN HAPPY CUSTOMER HAPPY THERE IS.
Ananda ladies:
- Bach The Ton, I often hear the Buddha teach them: “Because of the mind of birth, new things are born. Because of the legal birth, so the mind is born. " If I think now, that "thought" is my mind; depending on where it fits, then the mind immediately follows that it is not in, out and in the middle.
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked Anan: He said: "Depending on where the harmony, the mind immediately follows that there"; then his mind has no reality.
If his mind has no form ( that is, there is no ), then what is the harmony? And it has the form, then he tried to use his hand to hit the left hand, he immediately knew the pain. So does this pain-minding mind come from within, or from outside?
If he says, "It comes out of the body," then first he must see the gut in his body. And if he came in from nowhere, he must first see his face.
Ananda ladies:
- The eye sees, and the mind knows; Buddha says: "The mind sees," that is not.
Buddha asked:
- If the eye sees then the dead, the eye remains, why don't they see things?
If the dead person still sees objects, then what is it called the dead person?
Again, if his understanding mind is real, is there one or more bodies, all over his body, or not all the body?
If his mind had one body, and all over his body, when he tried to test a spot on his body, the whole body would know all pain, because the mind is all over the body and the same body.
If the whole body knew pain, then that pain would not have been in any single place.
If there is pain in a certain place, then he said: "the mind is one and the whole body" is not. And saying, "Your mind has many forms", so many people become; So which one is your mind?
If his mind is not all over his body, then he touches both his head and his feet at the same time, then, if his head knows pain, his right leg doesn't know, and his right leg knows pain, his right head doesn't know.
But in fact, his head and legs both know pain.
So he said: "depending on where the harmony, the mind that according to that", nor.
BECAUSE. A NAN HAPPENS MIND IN THE MIDDLE
Ananda white Buddha:
- I listened to Buddha together with Manjushri, etc. when discussing "truthfulness" (the mind ), Buddha taught, "The mind is neither inside nor outside."
Now I think: If the mind is in the body, why not know the inside? As for the mind outside, then why do body and mind know each other? Thus the "mind" must be in the middle.
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked:
- He said "Mind is in the middle", so where is the "center"? Must there be stability and clarity, in the body, or in the sight?
If in the body, on one side of the body, or in the body?
If on one side, it is not "in the middle"; and in the center of the body, then with the inside of the body, as mentioned before. That is: the heart must see the heart, liver, intestines, and lungs inside.
As for the scene, is it possible to state ( the middle ) out, or not yet?
If not stated, then there is no such; if it is given, it cannot be determined which is the middle.
Why? As if he took the middle tree, if he was in the east, he saw the tree in the west; and those in the south, see the tree in the north.
If the plug had not determined where it was in the middle, his mind would have flipped about.
Ananda ladies:
- I said "center" is not two places. As Buddha often said: "The eye with regard to form, born of consciousness". On one side of the eye, there is discrimination, on the one hand, there is no discrimination, the consciousness being in the middle, that is the seat of the mind.
Buddha asked:
- He said: "His heart was born in the middle of the sensation and the ceiling." So this mind, including the base and the sight, does not include both.
If it consists of both, then the base with the scene confused (the base does not work, the scene does not work; because both known and also did not know ). But the ceiling has no perception, and the base has perception, the two opposing sides separately, so where to take between.
As if not including the base and the scene, the mind has no real. So what is the center?
So must know: He said "the center in the center" is not.
VII. A fan adapts to "NOT BEFORE" the mind
Ananda ladies:
-White World Religion, the day before I saw when Buddha along with Mr. Maudgalyayana, Tu Bodhi, etc. said the Dharma, Buddha taught that:
The mind of knowledge distinguishes, not in the body, not outside the body, not in the middle, not anywhere; "Without ( first ) attachment " is called the mind. "
So now I take that "non-attachment" as my mind, not knowing whether it is good or not?
BUDDHISM
Buddha asked:
- He said: Take the "non-attachment to all" as the mind. So I asked him: All the objects in this world, which are nowhere, the world, etc. So do those objects have, that he is not attached to ( before ) or not, that he is not attached to? ?
If the statues were not, then there was also the turtle's fur, the horn of a rabbit: it was not, there was nothing in the time to be attached.
If there is still "no attachment" then he cannot say that "no attachment". Because anything without form is not, and something without appearance is. If there is a form, it must be "attached."
So he said, "No attachment to all the mind" is not.
THE SOLUTION
Seven times the Buddha decanted, Ananda said that he did not hit. So know: If the enlightened mind before being enlightened, then no matter what is said is wrong. Just like in Mahayana Mahayana, there is an example: "Blind man touches the elephant". The one who touches the wrong foot says the elephant is like a pillar, the person touches the ear, the elephant speaks like a garbage kiosk, the person who touches the tail, the elephant sounds like a broom sweeping the house, etc. It's wrong to say and think. Must see the foot of the elephant, it is not wrong to say it.
We should also note: In this sutta, A Nan represents all deluded beings present, as well as the future to stand out and ask.
There are paragraphs he presented or asked very low, representing the beings of deluded delusion. There are passages he presents or profoundly inquires, representing the beings of radical nature. So we should not criticize His level of text presentation. .
