In "gender, concentration, wisdom", then gender is an important part, a basic part. Thanks to the new mind, the mind is new, the mind has the mind, new wisdom arises, the new born hue eradicates the ignorance of disturbing emotions; ignorance of negativity is the end except for proving the mindfulness and becoming Buddha. But gender also has many things: there is something high, something low, something that applies to ordained goods, something for home goods. In the monastic order, the novice monk only holds 10 precepts, the monk holds 250 precepts, the bhikkhuni comes to 348 precepts. On the home side, there are the Three Precepts, the Five Precepts, the Eight Precepts of the Precepts and the Bodhisattva Precepts. The Three Precepts of the Five Precepts, we have already learned; Bodhisattva world is more difficult, we will learn later. Now, we only talk about the eight Precepts. 

B. BACKGROUND 

I. DEFINITIONS 

The precepts of the precepts are a spiritual practice of the laypeople, applied one day a night (24 hours). 

The word "Guan" is the door and the door prevents eight sins. The word "Trai", in Sanskrit, is Posadha, meaning after it is noon (12 noon) no longer eat. So the "Eight Precepts of the Precepts" is a purification of mind and body for 24 hours by stopping the following 8 sinful things: 

1. Do not kill  
2. Do not steal  
3. Do not lust  
4. Do not lie  
5. Do not drink alcohol  
6. Do not wear makeup, apply aromatic oils, sing and watch dance.  
7. Do not lie in bed with tall and beautiful beds  
8. Do not eat after noon. 

II. EXPLAINING EIGHT EIGHT THAT IS BANNED FROM ABOVE 

1.  Do not kill. 

a) Meaning of why not killing: 

Beings, though different in shape, share the same important point of being greedy, afraid of death, and joyful suffering. There is no need to give evidence for the remote, even in daily observation, we also realize: the fish see mermaids far away, the birds see the birds flying high, as well as the people who see tigers hiding, because they are afraid of forestry. life-threatening. When caught, birds, fish or people are struggling to try to escape. And when he was released, he escaped death, wow! What happiness for equal! Seeing the greed of life, fear of death, joy, and pain of all kinds, but we still kill the mind, it is very cruel, extremely cruel. 

So far, humans have killed a lot, by all means, to make a net to catch fish underwater, to use guns and arrows to catch animals on the ground ... and especially to use all kinds of plans. to kill and kill each other. On the good side, there are many who are also extremely good; but on the evil side, there are also many extremely evil people. 

We are Buddhists, that is, those who follow compassion. We need to try not to kill creatures and especially not to kill people. Regarding the killing of people, among the Five Precepts Buddha has absolutely forbidden, and we have also made vows to keep them. But about creatures, because some Buddhists still eat salty, so absolutely not to keep the killing. So at least in the life of the eight-year-old son, let us hold that precepts strictly. We don't kill people, we don't plan to kill! Nor should we touch the lives of all tangible species. Moreover, if we see anyone intending to kill the creature, we must admonish us to prevent people from doing so. 

In this way, we can maintain the complete killing, even if only for one day and night, but the benefits will be immense for our spiritual practice. 

2. Do not steal. 

The two thieves here have a great meaning. The things that belong to one's possession, from gold, silver, jewels, farm land, to furniture, needle thread, vegetable stalks, are not given, but robbed. Giving up a lot of fraud, measuring for redundancy, being late for work, exploiting workers, taking work, taking bribes, being paid by people who don't return, are thieves. 

People take money more than their lives, climb mountains, dive streams, take care of this scheme to make money to support themselves and their families, and to save in case of illness or accident. If the risk of losing money due to the sweat that there is, people are extremely miserable, desperate sometimes to suicidal. We also have many times when we are sad because of our loss, so do other people. We don't want anyone to steal from us, so of course we shouldn't steal. That is probably very simple justice. How much more are we Buddhists, meaning those who are determined to eradicate craving, in order to be liberated? 

In our daily struggle to live, there are many times when we cannot keep this restriction absolutely, for example, we do little but try to ask for high salaries, bad sales at high prices, and contrivance. in order to gain benefits in an unwarranted way ... Sometimes we realize that it is unrighteous, but we justify ourselves for the sake of our family and relatives. 

But in the eight-day vow of enlightenment, let us be determined not to steal robbery, nor let a greedy thought arise in our hearts. We do not steal, do not think about robbery, but see anyone who steals or comes up with the idea of ​​robbery, we also advise them and prevent them from doing wrong. Not only do we not rob and prevent robbery, we also give alms to the poor, poorly dressed, and seek to help those close, in need. 

Maintaining this precepts strictly, even though the time is short for 24 hours, we have also sown good causes for our spiritual practice. 

3. Not to be lewd. 

Lust is the karma of samsaric existence, so the renunciation must completely stop. Buddha taught: "The person who wants to eradicate samsara and nirvana without eliminating lust, is not different from someone who cooks sand and sand and wants to make rice, even though he goes out to cook, he will spend five thousand lifetimes. into rice. " 

So ordained Buddhists, if they want to become Buddhas, they must subtract lust. 

And the Buddhists at home, not able to completely eradicate lust, the Buddha only banned adultery, that is, outside the husband and wife, are not wandering; and between husband and wife, also need to keep the ceremony, know more to keep the body and mind clean and gentle. 

But this is about the daily life of lay Buddhists. But on the day of the eight Precepts, one must absolutely keep the precepts of conduct, not be lewd in action, nor remember to think of lewd things. 

If we strictly observe this precept, then even in 24 hours, the benefits will be immense, because we have had the opportunity to cultivate the virtue of virtue which is a very precious one in the practice of eradication. 

4. Do not lie. 

Lie is the mind to think the opposite. There are 4 ways to lie, that we have already learned in the Five Precepts. These are: telling untrue, embroidering, speaking two-dimensionally, speaking cruel words. 

We have seen, everyday in life, the harm of lying. The biggest damage is the loss of trust in each other. In a family without trusting each other, the family will be broken up; In a society that does not trust each other, then society will be devastated. 

In our daily lives we can not completely keep this precepts, so in the day of the eight Precepts, we thoroughly practice this precepts. We do not speak wrongly, do not speak embodied, do not speak in two directions, do not speak evil words that have been committed; We still admonish those around us to keep up the right way of not telling lies! 

If we practice this precepts strictly, even in a day and night, we will have planted a precious and rare seed in this life: honesty. 

5. Do not drink alcohol. 

Alcohol intoxicates, darkens the mind of the drinker. It was more dangerous than a poison, because the poison drank immediately, but only killed a lifetime; Do not make the wine man crazy, lose his mind, cause many sins, die and be reborn, reincarnate many lives in the darkness of darkness. 

Therefore, in the Sutta, the Buddha taught: "It is better to drink copper boiling water to dissolve this body, rather than drinking alcohol". 

We are Buddhists, that is, those who cultivate wisdom to be as enlightened as Buddha, we must not drink alcohol. We don't drink alcohol, nor do we recommend drinking. Drinking yourself guilty is still mild, do not advise others to drink. 

However, in the time of sickness, if the physician told to have alcohol mixed with medicine to heal, then we can take it temporarily. Then alcohol becomes a medicine, not a substance that makes our brain. hysterical again. 

This is about the regular day, but in the "Eight Precepts of the Precepts" life, we have to eliminate alcohol, not to drink it, but also to advise others to drink. 

6. Do not wear makeup, apply aromatic oils, sing and dance. 

The five senses: the ear, the eyes, the nose, the tongue and the body, are the five gateways, which can open the way for us to enter the realm of Nirvana, or into hell. If we know how to open those five doors to a pure path, to hear good words, to see good and good things, to smell pure aromas and piety, then the way to Nirvana, liberation? far. On the contrary, if we direct those sensory doors into the void, open them up for sin to enter, whoever hears the melodious, lustful lust of lust, sees depravity, lewdness, and smells of intoxication. If we are passionate, stimulating sensual pleasures, then the path of hell is ready to expand for us. 

Buddha forbids Buddhists from wearing makeup, painting on chalk, anointing with aromatic oils, dancing and singing, seducing, or banning to see those singing and dancing scenes, because they want to prevent us from falling into hell. 

But in the daily life of the lay Buddhists, because they are in contact with social life, they must be dressed up in dignity, sometimes they must attend concerts, or sing and dance as long as that kind of music and dance has a clean, constructive and kind character. But in the present, the arts: musicals, songs, dances, reforms, screenings ... are mostly depraved and degrading, we should take precautions, do not be too easy to fall into guilty. 

Above is said in the weekday, but on ordination of the Eight Precepts, we are definitely not wearing makeup, anointing aromatic oils, singing and dancing or going to see dancing and singing. Moreover, we must try to eradicate the negative effects of the unhealthy arts in our minds. 

In this way, although the time is only short of 24 hours, the positive effect of it is extremely valuable for our practice. 

7. Do not lie on tall, beautiful beds. 

This commandment, as well as the sixth, is to prevent our bodies from letting go of the pleasurable feelings of a good bed with a good mattress and a warm blanket. Because these feelings can stimulate the injustice of the body, creating conditions for us to cause sins, Buddha invented this precepts. Formerly, Mr. Ngo-Dat Quoc was a high-ranking monk, highly favored by King Y-Ton and King Hy-Ton. King Y-Ton offered him a treasure with very precious incense. Since being told that coordinates, Wukong-Dat Quoc monk recite fame, success, loss of virtue, suffered many calamities and suffering. 

Because he understood clearly the harmfulness of the wide bed, the blanket was warm and the mattress was soft, so he was once a Ruler-monk since his renunciation. Mr. Cao-Phong-Dieu Zen Master made a vow: three years without a bed; Shakyamuni Buddha, while ordained as a monk, lay down the grass lying dew, from year to year ... 

Following the example of the ancients, the monks and nuns only lay on a small bed, just sleeping, never using a wide bed with a high mattress. Those at home should also learn the simple and simple nature. If not done on weekdays, then the ordination day of the eight Precepts, also must thoroughly implement this Saturday precepts. 

8. Do not eat past noon. 

In the Buddha's law teaches: "Buddhas eat early tomorrow, Buddha eat noon, animals eat after noon, hungry ghosts, monks follow the Buddha, have to eat at noon." 

Eat on time, noon the following five benefits: 

- Few  
trouble and trouble - Little drowsiness  
- Easy to be single-minded  
- Fewer ordained  
- Quiet body and less illness. 

Except for a few cases such as when sick, the law also mimicked eating rice porridge after noon, but when eating must generate shame. 

Because of the practical benefits mentioned above, the monks need to practice. And Buddhists at home, when practicing the Eight Precepts, the precepts must also hold this precepts. 

C. CONCLUSION 

1. The benefits of the Eight Precepts are very great. 

As we have seen in the preceding paragraphs, the Eight Precepts of the Precepts is an extremely beneficial practice for lay Buddhists. During that time of practice, the body, speech and mind of those who took the precepts were completely calm, although only 24 hours, but those 24 hours were more precious than a lifetime of non-practitioners. Although very little, but a lot of products. It is just a drop of water, but a drop of pure water, so it is more precious than a muddy pond, it is only a tiny pearl, but it is a Manian jewel, so it even more precious hundred thousand other treasures. 

Let us clearly analyze the benefits we have gained in those 24 hours. 

- Thanks to the first precept, our mind has no malice to kill living things, our mouths do not chew and swallow blood of foul blood, our bodies are not heavy because of fish meat. For all around, we do not make people and animals suffer, lose their lives. 

- Thanks to the second precept, our mind does not move, our mind is not greedy, our body does not carry heavy objects of meaninglessness. To those around us, we do not make them suffer because of the loss of wealth they have cherished and cherished. 

- Thanks to the third precept, our mind is pure, our bodies are free from impurity. To our hundred-year-old friends, with those around us, we observe the ceremony, making them respectful. 

- Thanks to the fourth precept, our mind is not evil, our tongue is not a lie or a lie. For those around us, we keep the trust, making people from fear and doubt for us. 

- Thanks to the fifth precept, our mind is clear, our mouth is not full of enamel, our body is not disturbed. For those around us, we do not make them fearful or miserable because of the ghost. 

- Thanks to the sixth precept, our mind does not let go of the sensual pleasures, our senses do not contain images, flavors, obscene sounds, lust ... For those around us, we do not make them have to practice infection with impure and unclean feelings.  

- Thanks to the seventh precept, our mind does not recite the concept of fame and profit; our body is not attracted to sex. For those around us, we are close and close, because we are not separated from the noble and frivolous outside. 

- Thanks to the eighth precept, our mind is calm and clear, our body is gentle, less sick; For the surrounding species, like the poor, hungry ghosts, animals, we do not cause thirst, because of the nocturnal eating and drinking at night. 

How much benefit do we and the people we have gathered in about 24 hours, trying to ask if there is an even more valuable house-holder practice? 

2. Therefore Buddhists should practice the eight Precepts. 

Buddhists at home, though they are busy all day long on their livelihoods, they should arrange housework every month and go to the temple to receive the Precepts for a few times. If the circumstances are favorable, it can be repeated as many times as possible. 

If you are not qualified to go to the temple, then the facilities of the monk will be fine, but the benefit is not equal to the temple. 

So please advise the Buddhists at home, should try to practice as the Buddha taught, cultivate the practice of liberation, and then recommend that many people practice according to it, so that they can step forward to the path of liberation and peace.
