Lesson 3:  A NAN BUDDHISM TEACHING METHODS OF Austerities, SECOND TIME.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.

I. A Buddhist prayer for teaching the second method of practice

Mr. A Nan had failed to win the mind seven times, because he accepted the idea of ​​being the mind, so he was rejected by the Buddha. The second time he stood up and prostrated with his hands, prayed to the Buddha to teach the austerities method to escape samsara. 

Ananda said,

- White World Religion! I am the younger brother of the Buddha, although he became a renunciate, but still depends on the love of the Buddha. He only worries about studying and listening widely, not specializing in recitation, so he cannot prove the result, and cannot surrender to the foreign uncle's Ta Ta. Ca La; on the other hand, he was arrested by Ma Dang Gia into prostitution ... he had to save him. So bow to Buddha compassionately teach children the method of austerities, to destroy the ants and witness to enlightenment. 

Dear visitors finished, Ananda and the general respect and expect the Buddha's teachings. 

II. BUDDHIST ASK QUESTION SECOND

At that time Buddha asked the "mind" again, and told Ananda to clearly distinguish between what is chon and the hope.  

Buddha taught:

- He now wants to lead the Supreme Bodhi, the most important thing is to understand two basic things:  

+ One basis of samsara is samsara. 

+ A basic of Bodhi, Nirvana, is the mind. 

If he got the basic mistake of samsara ( disappointed mind ) as a monk, then he would never be liberated. Like the person who received the enemy, only added damage to his inheritance. And just as sand cooks make rice, oil for many years will not turn into rice. 

So now you want to know the way of austerities to get out of samsara, then listen to me: 

The Buddha immediately brought his hand, shrugged his five fingers and asked Mr. Ananda:

- Can you see it? 

Ananda replied:

- World Religion, see. 

Buddha asked:

- What do you see? 

Ananda replied:

- I saw Buddha bring his hand to five fingers. 

Buddha asked:

- What do you take to see and take what is the mind? 

III. AAN CHAN THE "THINKING DIFFERENT" THAT MENT

Ananda ladies:

- I take the "eye" to see and the "thinking, discriminating" as the mind. 

Buddha rebuked:

- Stupid, Ananda! That is not his mind. 

THE SOLUTION 

We should note: Normally, everyone thinks the "discriminating thought" is their mind, and Buddha says "not the mind". So we need to think carefully about that place.

Ananda panicked, stood up, Buddha:

-World Religion, this "thought, differentiation", if it is not your mind then what is it called? 

Buddha taught:

- It is "delusion" ( disappointment ). By the time he came from, mistakenly admitted "delusion" as "chon mind", so many lives incarnation. As the enemy took the child, should be attacked by the enemy. 

Ananda ladies:

-World Religion, because I love the new Buddha should renunciate, then I just use this mind that love Buddha. I worship the Buddha in the ten directions and do all the merit, also using this mind. Even if you do sinful things, destroy the Buddha Dharma, fall into hell, you use this mind. Today Buddha said "it" is not my mind, thus I have no mind; If there is no mind, then the field is like a tree and a stone! Bow to the Blessed One, merciful and compassionate. 

Buddha taught that:

Hey Ananda, if you accept the "thinking, discriminating" as your mind, then when leaving the scene of money, that "knowing, distinguishing" mind is still there, so that must be your mind. . If leaving the present scene, that mind of discernment is gone, it is not his feet. 

Even if he destroys all the five external perceptions, that is seeing, hearing, or knowing (the five senses ), only the inner “discursive discernment” remains ( the sixth consciousness ), which is also the delusion. distinctive ( sixth sense ) the legal form of the ceiling is not his feet. 

Ananda, I do not force you to accept the "discriminating thought" that is not your mind; I just told him to honestly consider: If you leave the present scene, and this "discriminative thinking" remains, then it must be very sincere of your mind. 

And if you leave the present scene, and this "discriminating thought" is also lost, then it is clearly the "discrimination delusion" ( mind ) of the six ceiling, not " his true mind often dwells ”.  

If he takes the "broken vision distinguish being born" ( delusions ) as his mind, then when the scene is over, the mind also follows that scene to kill. At that time, he had no heart. If there is no mind, then he takes something to practice, and attained enlightenment. 

He must know that: in the world all austerities, not being enlightened, are due to the wrong attachment of this "delusion of thought" (the mind of mind ) as true ( chon mind ). 

He himself is the same today, so although he learned a lot, he didn't get a fruit. 

IV. A Buddhist prayer for teaching the method of practice on the third time.

Ananda and the public, hearing the Buddha say so, were bewildered and silent. 

At that time, Mr. An Nan bowed his head to Buddha, knelt and clapped his hands together while crying and saying,

- Since I became a renunciate following Buddha, because I depend on him as a younger brother of Buddha, I am sure that he will give thanks to the god of the Buddha for directing the results, without having to practice hard; No doubt everyone knows how to cultivate and cannot replace each other. 

Today I have lost my "mind", and my family became a monk but I did not enter the religion, just like the same son who left his father to flee. 

Now I know how to study a lot without practicing, as well as those who do not study, and just as people talk about enough food, in the end I am still hungry. 

So World Religion, because we have two afflictions and knowledge bound, should not be enlightened mind. Bow to the Blessed One, mercifully to the poor, teach children the method of austerities, to invent the mind nature. 

V. BUDDHISM OF "SEEING" THAT IS ALWAYS

Then the Buddha called Ananda, saying,

- Just now, he said "seeing my five fingers shrink." So why hold hands? And thanks to what is there seeing? 

Ananda ladies:

-World Religion, shrinking the five fingers of the Buddha's hand, should have fist, and thanks to the eye should be able to see. 

Buddha asked:

- Then "no hands have no hands, nor does the eye have no vision"; Is that comparison true? 

Ananda ladies:

- World Religion, right. 

Buddha taught:

- Not quite! Without the hand, there is no fist, there is no eye, not the "seeing" is not there.  

He should go out and ask the blind people, "Do you see anything?", They all replied to him, "Only see darkness." That is clear: the blind do not have an eye, but the "seeing" also remains.  

Here is the proof: Although the eye is not, and the foreground scene is dark and light, the view is always present ( say the seeing represents the five senses ). 

Ananda ladies:

- Blind people who see dark, how can it be called?  

BECAUSE. BUDDHISM IS ONLY MINDED

Buddha asked Ananda:

- The sighted man in the dark sees dark, together with the blind see dark, so are the two nights different?  

Ananda ladies:

- White World Religion! Not different. 

Buddha asked:

- The people in the house are dark, if someone brings the lamp on, they can see the objects, so the lamp sees or the eye sees? 

Ananda ladies:

- Seeing the eyes, not the lights. 

Buddha taught:

-Likewise, the blind man, when stripping the clouds, sees the landscape, that is the mind, not the eyes.  

Buddha continued:

- The lamp only lightens things, and the seeing is the eye ( for the mind ) and not the light (for the eye ). Up one more: the eye only makes things clear, and the view is the mind, not the eye ( this is the first time Buddha points the mind ). 

Ananda and the public, when they listened to the Buddha's teaching like that, were silent, but in their hearts they did not understand, so they respectfully clapped their hands together, waiting for the Buddha to teach more. 

THE SOLUTION 

In this paragraph, please add this example to make it easy to understand: The eye of the person is like a light bulb, and the "seeing" of the person is like electricity. When the wire is broken (example nerve broken) shadow damage (example blind eye), the lamp does not burn, not lose electricity (not see). When the ball is replaced, the electricity is burned again: it is not the ball or the wire has electricity. 

The "seeing" of people is the same: when the eyes are clouded, it is only dark, not the "seeing". see. This paragraph the Buddha clearly pointed out that "seeing" is the mind. 

VII. BUDDHA ONLY MENTAL SECOND

Then the Buddha raised his hand, the five fingers shrunk and opened and asked Mr. Ananda:

- Can you see anything? 

Ananda ladies:

- Seeing Buddha lift his hand up, then open. 

Buddha asked:

- Does one's hand open, or does his "view" open? 

Ananda ladies:

- Buddha's hands are open, don't "see" your children won't open. 

Buddha compliments:

- That's right. 

Buddha again launched a halo on Ananda's face: Ananda then turned his head to look to the side. Buddha again radiated on the left shoulder of Ananda; An Nan turned her head to look to the left. 

Buddha asked:

- Why is your head shaking so much today? 

Ananda ladies:

- Because Buddha is radiant on my shoulders, I turn around to watch. 

Buddha asked:

- So your head shook, or did your vision shake? 

Ananda ladies:

- Your head swings back and forth, not your view does not rotate. 

Buddha asked:

- Which one is dynamic, which is pure? 

Ananda ladies:

- Your head has motion and calm ( stop ), but your view does not have movement and tranquility. 

Buddha says:

- Right 

Buddha continued:

- What is there, there is open, there is action, there is a net, there is birth, there is death, then that is expected, belongs to "guests" not him. Anything that doesn't move, opens, doesn't kill, then that's "chon", belongs to "owner" is he. Such feet and expectations are very clear, he still does not understand or stars! 

Why from any time to now, you keep getting the expectation of the four great false body, said to be "real" of his; this delusion of thought, being eradicated, is thought to be true "mind"; fake temporary scene, for his "real scene", but leaving his feet, which are often immortal, available? Because of that, you must have had many lives of rebirth, it is very unjust! 

THE SOLUTION 

This paragraph the Buddha indicates that the "seeing" does not open, and there is no birth, death, movement, tranquility, that is the true mind that is revealed. 

VIII. A NAN BUDDHISM ONLY TEACH IN THIS PLACE WHAT "THAN", WHAT "HAPPY".

At that time, Ananda and the audience heard the Buddha temporarily say that "seeing without moving and opening is the mind", so they all rejoice and rejoice, and think: From beginninglessness to now, lose one's mind, receive the delusions of discrimination according to the shadow of the ceiling to make Tam, today he realized his mind, so very happy. Just like a child thirsty for a long time, now meeting her from the mother, so he and the Buddha pray to the public to indicate where the body and mind are present, which the true being will not kill and the unreality will be eradicated. 

IX. THE FOUR KING OF Persia falters the question

Then the king of Persia stood up, Buddha.

- White World Religion, before the Buddhist church life, I heard the pagan sect Ca Chien Dien and Pi La Chi Tu said: "This body after death and then completely lost, called Nirvana". 

Today I was taught by the Buddha, but I still have doubts: how to know clearly and certify that this mind does not arise. Please teach us compassionately. 

X. BUDDHA ONLY THE THIRD CENTER

Buddha asked:

- Lord! His current body, is it as strong as a diamond, forever undermined, or perishable? 

The King replied:

-World Religion, the body today, eventually eventually destroyed. 

Buddha asked:

- He is not dead, how to know it will be destroyed? 

The King replied:

-World Religion, the impermanent body here, though not dead, but now its money has faded away! Day by day, day by day! Every thought through, through the moment (no ticks ) does not stop! ... Just as wood burned to ashes, burned gradually until dissipated! That's why I know, this body will definitely destroy. 

Buddha says:

- Right! 

Buddha asked again:

- Lord! His body did not have to destroy now? 

The King replied:

- White World Religion, day after month, all summer to winter, he silently died, until this day, his head was white and his teeth were loose, his legs were loose, his eyes were blurred, he was so old, and he was real No or no! 

Bach The Ton, when I was twenty years old, though said that youth, in fact beauty was older when ten years old. Thirty years old is older than twenty years old. To this day, sixty-two years old, older than fifty years old. 

It silently died old, taken over a period of ten years and said so. If thoughtful, this old, dead, not limited to about ten years or twenty years, but actually, but it is old every year, every month, every day, every hour. If more thoughtful, it's old, die every minute, every second and every moment ( ticks )! This year is older than last year, this month is older than last month, today is older than yesterday, this hour is older than before, this minute is older than the last minute, until this moment is also older than the previous moment. So I know, this body must eventually destroy. 

THE SOLUTION 

Just like a clock, because it runs every second, so every minute counts. Because I go by the minute, I only arrive at the hour, and the day, and so on.

Buddha asked:

- Lord! He saw that his body silently died like that, so he was sad; So in this body of birth and death, old death, do you know anything that doesn't kill old age and death? 

The King of Anonymous put his hands together respectfully:

- World Religion, I really do not know!

XI. THE BUDDHA ONLY "FOUND" IS NOT GIVING

Buddha taught that:

- I now show you what does not kill. 

Hey king, how old are you when you see the Ganges water? 

The King replied:

- When he was three years old, the mother cradling her visited the United Spirit gods ( gods Longevity ) passing this river, so at that time, I saw the Ganges. 

Buddha asked:

- Today you see the Ganges River, is that "seeing" different? 

The king answered:

- When my three-year-old son saw the Ganges River, when he was thirteen years old and now he was sixty-two years old, he saw that the Ganges River was no different. 

Buddha taught:

- Today he is worried about his body being old and weak, with a gray face and wrinkled face, not as young as he was. So now sixty-two years old, he saw the Ganges River, along with when he was young, he saw the Ganges River, is that "seeing" that old or young? 

The King of Anonymous replied:

- White World Religion, the "see" is not old and young. 

Buddha taught:

-Yes, the old face, body, though his face is old, but the "seeing" is still not old, so whichever is old, then that thing will be changed and destroyed; If any one is not old, then that one does not change and cease. It did not arise, then there is no way he could make it rebirth.

Obviously, he did not understand why, but also quoted the pagan director Mac Gia Le saying: This body died and then completely disappeared? 

The King, along with the general assembly, listened to the Buddha's teaching, and knew that: the dead person, is the mind that leaves this body and feels other body, not completely lost. Everyone rejoiced over the unprecedented benefit. 

THE SOLUTION
