A spiritual practitioner whose mind is always distracted by forgetting first, learning after forgetting first, and distracting thoughts, even though he practices hard, is difficult to produce satisfactory results, so in most religions , people often have moments of "quieting", focusing their thoughts inside to explore their interior and enlighten their teachings. As for Buddhism, there are customs and meditation. Regarding meditation, we will explore in the talks about the Sixth Grade later in this booklet. In this article and the following four follow-up articles, we will discuss empowerment.
The first custom we want to talk about is the Instant Book. B. BACKGROUND
I. DEFINITIONS
Quan So means counting the breath. Consistency is the concentration of ideas to contemplate, analyze, or inquire about a problem. The regimen is to focus the mind to let one's breath in and out, the purpose is to suspend the scattered mind.
II. WHY MUST SUSPENSION SUSPENSION?
Our minds are dominated by life's work, when we are happy and sad, when we worry about this, when we think of other things, when we are happy when we are angry, when we love when we hate, we are never calm. Even if we sit still, fold our arms, our minds do not stop, but still live the bustling life of it. How many complex images such as a film appear on the screen of the mind; and every image like that brings with it a feeling of joy and sorrow, so when we sit still, it's just to let the body rest, but the spirit is still active, sometimes it works again. more than at work. Most of us are heartbroken, upset about the outdated operation of our minds: Not wanting to remember anymore but still remembering, not wanting to love anymore but still loving, not wanting to be angry anymore but still being angry. Mastering the body is difficult, but mastering the mind is even more difficult. Especially in the complex, mechanical world today, a colorful world full of bustling sounds, a bizarre image of a hysterical world in which the unwavering strong mind is very vulnerable. disorders. Therefore, according to the statistics of scientists, the number of people suffering from madness is increasing every day in the world today.
Particularly in the small scope, we also realize that there are many students who do not remember, encounter things or forget, recite Buddha's name unsuccessfully, meditate on contemplation without results, all due to the distraction of the mind.
So, if you want to study quickly and remember, meet things not to forget, recite the Buddha's name one-pointedly without disturbance, contemplate contemplation to be accomplished, the essential thing is to make the mind calm.
Why is the mind stable, is it easy to achieve the above results? Let us take a common example that many people have experienced: When we learn a memorization lesson or do a math problem at sunset or in the midst of a noisy scene, we find it extremely difficult, because it is all day long. Our mind was tired of calculating the whirring, dispersing according to the ceiling. On the contrary, the same lesson, or the same problem, that in the deserted night, alone with a light, the lesson we learned very quickly, done very quickly, our mind seemed to be informed. extraordinary insight. Why? Because the new wake up at night, our minds quiet, not being dominated by the scene.
We can make a second example to make the problem even more clear: An oil lamp, though very large, is light when it is shaken by the wind from the oppressive side, creeping when it is dim, sometimes I want to turn off. Such a lamp only drains so much oil, it can't illuminate anything. But when we took the chimney again, the wind couldn't hit us anymore, the lamp stood upright and radiated light from near and far, illuminating a dark area in the school night.
Just like the lamp was hit by the wind, the mind of the practitioner was disturbed by the bowl, the sex drive was dominated by sex, the ceiling was surrounded by confusion, unable to enlighten anything. So practitioners, in order to make the mind lucid, must not let it scatter, that is to be centered, the deeper the concentration, the more the mind will show, the more silent the lamp is, the more light will shine. Buddha taught: "The mind has new wisdom arises, has a new wisdom destroyed the ignorance to clear the mind Tanh ". The reason, the saints are aware of the future past and there are many miraculous things, all due to the mind has determined to invent wisdom, so it is so. Should copy: " Made the most mind, invariant", meaning that preventing the mind from getting in one place, nothing will be unsuccessful. Practitioners who want their mind to be completely dispersed, to be settled, they must practice the Window Book, which is very easy to practice and Very effective, anyone can do it.
III. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING EFFECTS
Before the shop, Instant Books need to strictly follow the following:
1. Food. Eat foods that suit your body. If you eat the food too hotly, then the coal will be uneasy, the mind will be in turmoil. On the contrary, if you eat living things that are indigestible and indigestible, your body will be heavy and sluggish.
2. Clothes. Must dress for the weather. When it's hot, wear thin clothes, when it's cold, wear warm clothes. If on the contrary the body loses its conditioning, it will work for a long time.
3. Accommodation. Must stay in secluded places, then the new practice will be quick success. If in a noisy place, for novices, it is inevitable for commotion.
4. Practicing time. Choose quiet hours, like 10 at night, or 4 at night. If in the city, choose which time the family sleeps all the way around to reduce the noise.
5. Take a shower. The body must often wash, clean, to avoid itching and irritation in the body.
6. How to sit. Have to sit cross-legged (legs crossed folded neatly, pressed into the thighs to close), or sat semi-old (legs crossed to the left leg or left leg crossed to the legs, pushed close to the side to be neat). This method of sitting first is not used to it, it's okay to be numb (only numb your legs while sitting); By the time the numbness is gone, both legs will get sore. When the pain is gone, you can sit and sit for as long as you like.
7. Back. The back had to sit up straight like a wall, so that the spine joints could eat evenly, thus sitting for a long time. Practitioners should see the other wall, thanks to it standing upright, the bricks eat well, should stand for a long time, if slightly inclined, of course it must fall.
8. Two hands. Two arms swept downward, hands resting on both feet, hands face-up on left hand, the way like Buddha sitting (see picture of Ton Ton sitting in each temple).
9. Neck and head. The neck must be straight, the head slightly falling, the eyes only open a quarter (if the eyes are open, the mind will be easily disturbed, and if closed, the mind will be deep).
IV. METHOD OF BOOK
Once seated in exactly the same way as above, one begins to count the breath. Before counting, exhale nine and ten breaths in length, letting the regular breathing and the air of air, wrath, and heaviness in the body spill out, and replace it with cool, clear air clean of nature.
When breathing out, practitioners must think: "The afflictions: greed, hatred, ignorance, the impurities in the body are all expelled by the breath, there is no longer a single thing left." When inhaled, one should think: "The gentle, transparent substances of the universe follow the breath that permeates the body and mind".
When enough ten breath, practitioners began to breathe evenly, not long not short, not quickly or slowly, to breathe gently like breathing turtle. If the breath is quick and long, the mind is disturbed, while the breathing is slow and short, the mind is sleepy, or it is wretched, sometimes it gives birth to entertainment. Should have to breathe gently and steadily, not quickly or slowly, in the new body to be healthy.
From here, begin to count the breaths. There are four ways to count the breath:
1. Count slightly odd. That means breathing out counting to one, breathing counting to count two, breathing out counting to three, breathing counting to four, counting to ten, without adding or removing, and then counting from one to ten again. Count and count from one to ten, in about half an hour, an hour or two at will.
2. Count evenly. It means counting in and out out counting one, breathing in and out again counting two, and so on until ten. When I counted to ten, I started counting one to ten again, and so on until it was time to rest.
This method of counting even steam is very common, it is often used in the past, and counting out breaths is easier, free of gas (containing steam in the lungs).
3. Agreement. That is counting in the two ways above, any way, but sequentially from one to ten.
4. Counting against. That is also using the above two ways of counting, but counting down from ten to one.
Four methods, arbitrary practitioners want to use one method or all four methods are interchangeable. As long as it's convenient for us and not messy, it's successful; meaning the treatment is scattered.
V. THE BIGGEST CAUSES HAPPENS WHEN BREATHING
The confusion that practitioners often make when they begin to practice the Book is:
1. Increase. That means breathing less but counting more, counting leaps and bounds, such as three in a row to five, or a new year jumped up to count eight and so forth.
2. Reduction. That means breathing a lot but counting a little, counting backwards, like coming up to four and counting three, or seven and then counting six and so on.
3. Anonymous. That is, I don't remember how many numbers I count.
Every time I make a mistake like that, I have to start counting. Must practice until no longer make the aforementioned mistakes, the mind will be calm.
C. CONCLUSION:
Quan So is a very effective and highly effective method of distracting the mind in the Buddhist sects, from Hinayana to Mahayana, from Asian countries to the West. Especially in the Buddhist circles of Japan and Europe, this custom is very popular. Practitioners apply this method, the mind is no longer distracted in reciting the Buddha's name quickly.
Not only austerities, the worldly people should also follow this custom, the body will be healthy, the spirit will be peaceful, the mind will be clear again, learn quickly remember, think, judge judgment business is swift and quibble.
But in every job, too, to succeed, must persevere perseverance. No matter how beautiful or beautiful the method is, without enough dedication, it will not yield any positive results. Let's see the boatman who rode the other side of the water, if he could row five or seven oars and let go and rest, not only would he not reach the intended shore, but he would be far behind. The ancients also taught, "Assuming there is something that is easy to grow, but one sunny day, ten cold days, the same will be hard to bear." So practitioners should not see this restaurant is easy to contempt, treat, cultivate a ten-day holiday, doing so of course never succeed.
In addition to diligence, practitioners must follow the instructions above, applying the right method to achieve satisfactory results.
As a Buddhist, you must practice this method of the Book so that the mind will no longer be scattered, the wisdom will easily arise, ignorance will cease and return to your pure mind.
