UNIVERSAL BUDDHISM 1
SRAMANA=THICH THIEN HOA.
Course II: THIEN THUA BUDDHIST
Lesson 1: THE DUTY OF THE BUDDHIST AT GIA.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.

A. OPENING
1. Everyone's life has the duty:
People are born on this universe, everyone has a duty. In general, there is already a name, there must be a destiny. The ant, the bee, has the part of the ant, the bee; The moon, the sun have the fate of the moon, the sun. No matter how big or big, everyone has their own destiny. Things that need to be done, for that duty, are obligations.
The bigger the name, the more destiny; the more the duty, the heavier the duty. Whenever there is an additional name, there is an additional duty. The more names, the more the duties ... He has his duties; but when + the person is an official, of course, apart from his duty, there is an additional duty as an official, (the duty of the + person). And if the official is the provincial governor, (the + governor + the provincial leader), of course, in addition to the above two duties, there is also an obligation to govern the whole province (duty of people + duty + duty of duty) treatment of the whole province). If you want to have many names, but you want to vent your duties, it is fraud, deception. And at that time, that name was only a nominal name. And when the name is corrupt, everything is corrupt. Therefore, the ancient Confucius raised the theory of "Righteousness" to regulate society so.
2. The lay Buddhists have more duties than anyone:
Based on the above argument, we see that the duty of lay Buddhists is very heavy. Our names consist of up to five words: Man + Buddhist + at home. Thus, of course we have the obligations of the people + the obligations of the Buddhists + the duties at home. Not to mention that the lay Buddhists also have other names such as: Civil servants, professors, governors, etc. But let this matter not go into too much detail; below we only talk about  duties of Buddhists at home  only. But if we want the problem to be put in a clearer, simpler, and closer way, we suggest cutting down the human words   . That is, we will not talk about the duties of the people here; that duty  everyone , for being  human They all know it (in every moral book, citizens mention it).
So below, we will only mention the " duty of a lay Buddhist ".
B. BACKGROUND
What is the duty of lay Buddhists?
Buddha is omniscient, omnipotent, all-virtue, has completely erased the ego, the attachment to all good deeds can be done, so the merit is complete and the Buddha knows the spells obey the law of cause and effect, so always know how to sow good things, good deeds.
Buddhists, in order to be a Buddha, to follow in the footsteps of Buddha, to deserve the name of a Buddhist, to fulfill their duties means to listen to what Buddha has taught, to do what Buddha has done, Go the way Buddha went.
Buddhists, should have done the same thing. But because we are  Buddhists at home , we cannot yet fully follow Buddha. The two words of home bind us in the duties we must fulfill.
Therefore, lay Buddhists have the following duties:
- Duty to self.
- Obligations toward family and relatives.
- Obligations towards people outside the family.
I. DIVIDE TO SELF-SELF
Practicing mind nature.
In addition to the duty to make people worthy of the human name, to fulfill the personality, Buddhists also always try to cultivate virtue, cultivate the mind and mind to keep the body and mind peaceful, pure, in order to enjoy happiness. blessed in the present and step up the path of future liberation.
Every Buddhist must always try to rise beyond human life, beyond the six paths. From beginningless to now, we still live and sleep in the school of false dreams, reincarnations, reincarnations that have been reborn for many lives, and sentient beings also return them. Today, we are fortunate thanks to the previous life's blessing, to be a pupil of the Buddha, to have eyes on the sutta, to hear the Dharma, as well as to have lights in the dark, to meet with an international boat. If we do not try hard to practice, to eliminate the habits of delusion, afflictions, so that our mind can be gradually evolved to perfection, then we will be free from our previous conditions thanks to Shakyamuni, the Father who gave the sermon, showed us the austerities to escape samsara. The spiritual practice that a lay Buddhist should be determined to follow is: keep the Five Precepts, Cross the Good faith, eradicate defilements, specialize in reciting Buddha's mind, and generate compassionate compassion. In this way, we can go beyond human life and take a long step on the path of liberation.

IV. HOW TO HAPPY AND SOME ESSENTIAL TRUTHES OF BUDDHIST AT HOME
In addition to the duties mentioned above, lay Buddhists also need to know how to address them when they are in contact with the Sangha, and the necessary etiquette when visiting temples, Buddhist offerings, Buddhist sutras, etc. , these things, though physical, cannot be ignored.
1. How to greet and address the Sangha:
Buddhists must know how to treat and address monks to allow:
a) When meeting one or more monks at the temple or on the street, we should applaud with respectful hands, by reciting: "Namo Amitabha Buddha", with a happy face, makes everyone happy. with me. This greeting expresses a strong affection, more than the hand-shaking greeting of Westerners. The reason for greeting each other with a sentence of Buddha, is to remind that everyone has Buddha nature (nature of Amitabha), if determined, then also to the realm of Pure Land and will eventually become Buddha.
b) On the way of addressing, lay Buddhists should not call on monks or brothers or brothers or friends but should call on teachers, even though he is a fellow teacher.
The Venerable, Venerable should not be too abusive, not all monks are called Venerable or Venerable. Only for monks who are virtuous, many years of age (the age of religion), and for those who are not used to it, should use the word Venerable or Venerable. For the gurus and monks we often know, using the word "Teacher" is the most meaningful and meaningful way. He is meant to be revered like his father (army, monk, assistant) and often teaches him on the way to practice. The teacher seems to be both respectful, intimate, and sincere, and not like the word Venerable or Venerable seems to be polite, topical and superficial. Currently the epidemic is spreading, using the terms Venerable and Venerable. We should be cautious whenever we use those words, so as not to be misunderstood by pagans that the Sangha wants to be called that, because he still enjoys his position,
c) Before going to the main hall of the Buddha's offerings, wash your face, rinse your mouth, and wash your hands, leaving shoes and sandals on the doorstep, do not bring blessings. When going to the power, go to the left, then go to the right, in the "righteous way" of the Buddha (go around in the right direction, three or seven rounds, to pay homage to Buddha).
When going out, be careful watch under your feet, to avoid the trampling on ants. Keeping like that, merit is more than being released without knowing.
d) When chanting, you must put your hands across your chest, ten fingers in pairs are equal, not staggered, palms tight, do not leave empty between. The feet stand horizontally, in the shape of a "bowl", eyes down, hard-working chanting for sentences that are clear, should not depend on good voices, chant loudly for them. Must chant for eating the rhythm, according to the sound of and recitation of Mr. Duy-na (leading).
When worshiping the Buddha, the five stature must be close to the ground, that is, head, hands, and knees, close to the mat, respectfully devoted. When bowing to one side, because the rear also has a temple to worship the Dharma protector or Buddha image and make room for the abbot. When the Buddha ceremony is complete, go out to step back, look at the Buddha image, do not turn away.
e) Before washing or chanting, to wash hands. Take the scriptures and take them wherever you go, so hug them on the chest. If you want to say goodbye to someone, you must leave it on the table before you greet. Meet the case no place to business, then hug your chest and salute: "Amitabha Buddha" is okay. Abstinence is holding business books that amnesty salute people.
Above is a brief summary of some dread rituals that Buddhists at home must preserve. The majesty of the renunciants is many, but not the scope of this article, so it is not mentioned.
C. CONCLUSION
Advise lay Buddhists to fulfill their duties.
The duties of Buddhists at home as mentioned above, although many are mentioned, but nothing is extremely difficult and complicated. Those things, a person who is not a Buddhist, but a little virtue, also understands, knows.
But the important thing here, is not knowledge but practice, those knowledge. In ordinary daily life, it is sometimes harder to fulfill your duties than to go to the battle to kill the enemy, or to climb mountains and streams. These difficult but extraordinary tasks only need to mobilize effort and enthusiasm in a certain period of time, but ordinary daily duties, to be rounded, must use patience and effort. all my life. For that reason, we have a proverb: "First, home tu, second tu market, third tu temple".
So we should not disregard our trivial duties, but always try to fulfill. This effort will bring us a truly sure reward for gradually taking us to liberation. END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.3/1/2020.
