The Buddha was the Sidhāttha prince, the son of Suddhodana and the queen Māyā. His hometown is the state of the Sakya family, north of India, the capital of Kapilavatthu, located on the Rohini river at the foot of the Himalayas, the Terai region of Nepal today.
The king and queen are both virtuous people but often sad because they have no children to succeed. On the occasion of a great holiday, Queen Māyā is a full-time boy and the king distributes treasures to the poor. That night, while resting, the queen dreamed of a six-ivory white elephant, taping the white lotus branch from high to down, approaching and crawling into the right side of the queen. The dreaming guess guesses that the queen will give birth to an outstanding prince. The royal family was very happy and the queen conceived from there.
At the birth, the customary queen asked the king to return to her parents' house to give birth. When passing through the Lumbini garden, the queen stopped to watch beautiful fresh flowers in the morning. While giving the handrails to pick up an unspecified flower, she gave birth to the prince. That day was the full moon day of Vesak (April in Vietnam) more than 2,500 years ago.
The good news of the crown prince was born throughout the four directions. Guru Asita went to the palace and asked to visit the prince. Seeing good generals at the prince, the Taoist was extremely happy but then sad and sad. The King was very worried and asked the reason why the Taoist said:
"Your majesty, the prince is an outstanding, if in life, it will be an emperor (cakkaravattirājā), if you practice, you will become an enlightened saint. I am glad that an Enlightened One was born. I am sad because I am old now, no longer alive until the day I heard His teachings. ”
Queen Māyā died after the prince was born seven days. The queen's sister, Mahaprajapati, replaces the prince.
The prince was very intelligent and handsome, martial arts literature was more sophisticated than people. But the prince often seemed unhappy with life. At the age of seven, one day the prince was taken out to the field to attend the opening ceremony of the spring season. Sunny, the prince sat under a tree to watch the ceremony. In the field, the king's father held a jeweled plow, behind a couple of strong fat cows. The plowing blades made up the boulders of the earth, the earthworms broke, and blood came out. The black flute danced along the bed of the king plowing, competing to eat the worms that were writhing and seeking hiding places.Through that scene, the prince clearly saw the bitter truth about life and thought deeply about those things.
When the ceremony arrived, as if not eager to live in the magnificent life of the palace, the prince became more meditative than before. The father recalled the prophecy of Dr. Asita, fearing that the prince would become a monk, so he tried every way to make the prince relieved and happy with the royal life. King built for the prince three magnificent palaces, suitable for three seasons: summer, rainy season and winter. King married Princess Yasodharā for the crown prince at 16 years old.
The golden palace of gold and the love of a gentle wife still do not deal with concerns and questions about the life of the prince. In order to understand the human life, the prince asked the king's father to play outside the city. For the first time, the prince was surprised to see a thin, panting elderly man walking with a walking stick tiredly. The second time, the prince met a sick person. For the third time, he saw a dead person. These three scenes make Him sad and think more. Many times the prince asked the professors about the cause of suffering and the method of eliminating suffering. But the answers are full of divine powers and a lack of reason about the unsatisfactory life of the prince. It was during the fourth walk, the prince met a monk with an elegant, lucid manner, the prince intended to leave the royal life in order to find the truth.
In the days of delusion with the thought of leaving, the prince was informed that Princess Yasodharā gave birth to a son: Rāhula. This news strengthens the will of the crown prince because from now on, there are people who have succeeded, the king will be less sad. At that time the prince was 29 years old.
Later that day, after a banquet feast, when the servant, the woman was fast asleep, the prince and the attendant were Chandaka and the horse Kanthaka left, after quietly saying goodbye to his wife and children.
In the morning, when he arrived at the bank of Anôma, the prince went down to his horse and changed into a brocade, he took his ordinary clothes, used a sword to cut his hair, and gave horses and jewelry to Chandaka to bring to his father and the princess to leave. .
Since then Prince Siddhattha has become a sage of Sākya (Sākyamuni). Sākyamuni goes to Rajagaha to find a teacher. He met famous masters like Ārāḍa Kālāma and Uddaka Rāmaputta. But they did not answer His question. Sākyamuni came to the forest of Uruvela (near Buddhagaya) and cultivated ascetic there in the hope of being enlightened.
But the six years of asceticism only made his body languish and mentally impaired. Sākyamuni decided to give up this practice. He received and used the rice bowl of Sujātā to offer. Five fellow practitioners left Sākyamuni thinking that he was tempted by the Ma King. At that time, Sākyamuni went to the bank of Neranjana river. After bathing, he asked the person who cut the grass a bundle of grass to cushion and come to meditate under the pial tree (now called bodhi or bodhi tree) with the vow: "Even if the bones are dry, otherwise attain virtue, we swear not to leave this place. ”After the vow, Sākyamuni concentrates all the mental energy except the afflictions and intellectual development.
On the full moon night of Vesak (April in Vietnam), guessing that Sākyamuni is about to become a leader, the Maou (Māra) wrongly subordinates come to harass and seduce. But all the evil sins of the Maou cannot win against Sākyamuni.
After the submission of the Maou, the embodiment of greed, anger and delusion, Sākyamuni continued to apply the power of mind to enter the truth. At the beginning of the night, the mind lit up, Sākyamuni attested to being a Net, knowing that the line of life changed from one life to another of all beings;in the middle of the night he witnessed the eye-eye, knowing the process of birth and destruction of things through the law of cause and effect or dependent origination; near morning, when the morning star has just sprouted, He witnessed the smuggling, clear the defilements, the cause of life and death.(Dn, III. 28) Then, 35-year-old Sākyamuni, became the complete enlightened being (Buddha), contemporary called Gotama Buddha or Sākyamuni Buddha (Thich-ca Mau-ni).
After enlightenment, with compassion and affirmation that people can be good and upright, the Buddha walks to Saranath (Bénares) to teach the five old ascetic friends. The Buddha told them that if they want to see the truth, they must leave two outrageous ways of life: to be immersed in the physical and to destroy the body, to be clear and to realize the four noble truths: suffering (dukkha) , the cause of suffering (samudaya), the destruction of suffering (nirodha), and the method of cessation of suffering (magga). In the second lecture, the Buddha rejected the misconception of the immortal soul or the ego that often became the master of life and made clear that man is a continuous synthesis of matter (rupa) and spirit ( nāma). Therefore, the evil and deluded man can practice to become enlightened, good.
Thanks to the wise guidance of the Buddha, the Sangha (Sangha) is increasingly crowded. When the Sangha was crowded, the Buddha encouraged people to go in many directions to spread the truth. Along with the Sangha, the Buddha also traveled throughout the Ganges basin to educate people, regardless of the lowly and rich. Those who are capable of ordained monks and mentors are all admitted to the Sangha. Those who want to be good are accepted as lay Buddhists. The Buddha rejected the idle spiritual beliefs, pointing out the mistakes in how to perceive reality, open unreasonable constraints, and renovate bad practices such as killing animals for sacrifices and islands. .. The Buddha also strongly opposes the strange class regime derived from the Brahmin classics. For 45 years, from one village to another,
On the way of education, on a full moon night of Vesak, Buddha stopped at the forest of Kusinagara, Kasia village. After advising the disciple for the last time: "All things fall into disrepair, must be diligent to perform the ideal", the Buddha quietly passed away (parinirvāṇa) at 80 years old.
Lotus PEOPLE Thus, the Buddha is not a god created and governs the universe and humans, or messenger of the gods, that he is the one who knows restless about the suffering of life, do not accept dignity of gods and clergy, daring to sacrifice rich life, determined to find the truth. He was enlightened and enlightened to others. It can be said that the Buddha is a human being with the noble meaning of words, but cannot say Buddha is an ordinary person like many others.
Buddha is not only a philosopher who finds answers about people and the universe. Before and after the Buddha, there were many famous philosophers, posing and explaining many interesting issues such as: "Where do people and universes come from?" "physical and psychological is one or the other?" etc. Philosophers can, to some extent, satisfy people's curiosity. But a philosopher is a philosopher who cannot be Buddha, just as Buddha is not only a philosopher. Many people either knowingly or unknowingly consider Buddha a philosopher. This is not true.
Although the Buddha was also a finder and saw the truth as other philosophers, the Buddha sought the truth with all his life, and after seeing the comprehensive truth, the Buddha lived complete and appropriate according to the truth. The Buddha was enlightened and showed the truth and not only understood and spoke of the truth as other philosophers, philosophy teachers.
To know who the Buddha is, most definitely, let us hear the Buddha himself describe Him. Mr. Dona met Buddha immediately after he was enlightened and on his way from Buddhagaya to Saranath. He asked:
- Are you a god (deva)?
- She-la-Mon, we are not a god.
- So are you Yakkha, or Gandhabba?
- I'm not a Yakkha, nor Gandhabba.
- Are you human?
- I am not a person (usually).
- So who are you?
- Hey Lady-la-Mon, should know that I am a Buddha (Buddha), a person fully enlightened.
Thus, the Buddha is a person who has achieved enlightenment, complete liberation, has all the beautiful qualities that people can follow to perform. Therefore, the Buddha is also honored as:
1. Tathagata: the level of truth.
2. Respect: rank deserves to receive the offering glass offering.
3. Chief Justice Tri: the level of understanding right and comprehensive about all.
4. Minh Hanh Tuc: steps have enough mind and virtue.
5. Thien Thi: steps have skillfully overcome samsara.
6. The World Award: steps to understand the world.
7. Supreme Master: higher rank nobody is better.
8. Ngự Trượng Phu: the level of self-control and others.
9. Thien Nhan Su: the master of both humans and gods.
10. The Religion: ranks people respect.
In the past there were many Buddhas. In the future there will be many Buddhas. Gotama Buddha or Sākyamuni Buddha is a Buddha in the present life. Gotama Buddha himself likened to a lotus flower:
"Like a pure lotus worth seeing,
Born from mud without sticking with mud.
I am not contaminated with life,
So, Brahmin, I am Buddha. ”
Buddha is a symbol of enlightenment. Enlightenment in the Buddha is the ability to understand things in a real way (yathābhutam) but not the "omniscient" (sabbaññu) as some contemporary leaders with the Buddha often boast.According to some patriarchs, their omniscience appears anytime, when awake as well as sleep. (Mn, I. 482) The content of the three canonical organs (Tipitaka) proves that the Buddha is enlightened because all his teachings are in accordance with the truth.
A MASTER The Buddha enlightened himself and enlightened others so he was a teacher. For 45 years of teaching, the Buddha only did the work of a teacher as he himself said:
"You must try for yourself,
Tathagata is the only guide."
If you see the Buddha as a teacher, then Buddhists cannot help but understand His teachings properly before taking the path of enlightenment and liberation.
