Recover the mind.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.
Our bodies are full of six bases, but they always come out. Eyes chasing colors, ears chasing sounds, noses chasing after the scent ... Six chasing the six ceiling is going enchanted. Now that I want to return to the sensory shore, I have to turn my head. I will lead the sutras to speak out this truth.
In the Surangama Sutra, Buddha raised his hand to ask him A Nan: "Do you see?". He A Nan said: "Yes". Buddha put his hand down, asked: "See?" On Ananda's day, "Do not see". Right then Buddha immediately rebuked: "You have forgotten yourself according to things!". Why so ?.
This is a small story that we have little interest in, showing that we have also forgotten ourselves in things. Buddha raised his hand, A Nan saw his hand. Buddha put his hand down, A Nan saw no hand, not seen. Yet he answered "not see" so he was rebuked by Buddha. Not the lost hand is losing sight. The sight is me, the hand is the scene. I don't see the hand, but the sight still shows up. If you see money, say no, that is to forget to run after things. We all forget ourselves.
Buddha taught La La La to ring the bell "deck" and asked him A Nan: "Do you hear?". A Nan answered: "Yes, listen." Later, the bell rang, Buddha asked: "Listen?". He said, "Yes, don't listen." Buddha told La La La to ring the bell once more and also asked the same thing, A Nan also replied the same way. Buddha rebuked: "He really forgot himself according to things!".
What does that mean? How to answer?
If you hear the "deck" bell, you can answer "Listen". When the bell rings, ask to listen, answer "Don't listen". Thus assimilating the hearing with the bell as one. But the bell is the scene, the listening is me. The scene is gone, but the hearing is not lost. The loss of the bell and saying "not listening" means forgetting yourself, only knowing the scene. We test ourselves for a long time we are enchanted. The fact that we are in love without knowing we are confused.
Through another story, Zen Master Canh Thanh heard the sound of a snake being caught by a snake, shouting loudly, he asked the attendant: "What language is that?"
The attendant answered: "The Venerable Master, the sound of a snake catching a frog, a mule is a mule." He immediately said: "suffering beings have misery of beings." What are suffering beings? What is suffering? The frog was caught by the snake, so it screamed, it was suffering beings. The author heard the clamor roar but forgot that he had the good thing, that was suffering. The story is very simple, but asking back is troublesome.
Now if we want to answer instead of the attendant, what should we do ?. Hard, right?
To see that if we stand in the case of the fake attendant, we will be the same. But the truth is not difficult, just say: I heard the sound of snakes snapping. Just adding the word "I hear" is me. Because the fake attendant only knew how to speak, he did not know me, so he lost me. The difference is a bit different from the difference between the provincial and the unconscious people.
We cultivate the same way, always come back to us, remember ourselves, don't follow the scene. If you remember that you are a province, you still follow the scene and fall in love. So on the way of cultivation is not difficult, but it is difficult in us to forget ourselves. Now wake up to know how to return to me, that is to turn to the shore.
In the Shurangama Sutra, the Buddha says all beings have a clarity that gives birth to six harmony. A clarity is a pure thing. That light produces six instant harmonies of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind. The six bases inside combine with the six outer ceiling giving birth to six distinct things, so called the harmonious continent. We cultivate from the harmonious continent back to a clarity. That is the feeling. In contrast, the six harmony chased the six ceiling, which is mesmerizing.
Wanting to return to such a clarity, right where the six harmony does not stick with the six ceiling. For example, the house has six open doors, there is a big light inside. We stood at the door, looked out, found it dark, turned around and found it bright. Such simple. Looking outside, chasing outside is in the ocean. Turning back to see the bright light is back to the sensory shore. Just a turn, very simple! Then tu is not difficult. Such truth.
So also in the Shurangama Sutra, A Nan asked Buddha: "What is the root of affliction and death? What is the root of Bodhi Nirvana? ”At that time, not only Shakyamuni Buddha, but also the ten Buddhas, spoke at the same time, saying aloud:" His six bases are the root of suffering and death. , his six bases are also the root of the Bodhi Nirvana! ". Should know tu is aiming right where the six bases, turning back to be Bodhi Nirvana, running out is negativity birth and death. The cultivation is too easy, there is nothing to doubt.
What do we meditate for now? Meditation is the core that removes the attachment of the eyes, the ears, the nose, and the tongue to the outer ceilings, paying attention only to the inside. In the six bases, subduing the mind, do not allow yourself to follow the dharma as the root. Dharma is the shadow of the past, we keep in mind. As they sat still, they swelled up, making me remember this, thinking that. Therefore, we have to subdue the mind so that it no longer has the ability to drag itself, which is the main purpose of the meditator.
Why are the six bases that we only submit to the mind? In fact, when the eyes see the color, if only they see it, there is no problem when they pay attention. The same is true for ears. So although "will" is deep inside, it is very important. Owning the mastery of the idea then the other five bases are mastered. So we have to go back, how to subdue the mind to stop, not to run anymore, to succeed. I "mean" to stop it is fixed. And it runs all the time, it's a disorder.
What we do must know its origin. Many people think of meditating for good or long life, which is not true. Meditation is what your mind is about. So in a meditation house there is a very simple and interesting story.
Siddhartha Hue President came to Zen Master Hong An Trung Ap said: - Bach Hoa, what is Buddha nature?
Siddhartha said: -I can't say it straight away, so use this example for him to understand: Like a monkey locked in a six-door cage. Outside another monkey came calling "Cross! Cross! The monkey inside replied "Crossing!" Just like that, the monkey outside came to the door and cried, the monkey inside responded.
Speaking of which, Mr. Trung Ap was silent.
Nguong Son is a great hand in the meditation house. After listening, he asks: "What is the Venerable Master, if the monkey inside is sleeping?". At that moment, Zen Master Trung Ap came down from the court to take on the shoulder of Ngiangshan and said, "We have seen each other!"
The story is very simple and also very clear. The Zen master said "seeing", what is it? The monkey in is his conscious monkey. The monkey outside is six ceiling. If any organ comes into contact with a ceiling, then the conscious inner monkey jumps out. It goes on reacting equally. If the monkey is conscious of being silent then the Buddha nature does not need to explain what Buddha nature is. So when the monkey slept, the Buddha nature showed money, so they said "We have seen each other".
Cultivation is clearly not a strange thing, but for a long time we go on searching outside, not knowing the root of spiritual practice. As meditating is to stop consciousness, do not let it go crazy. Any way, any means can be used, it is good to be subdued. END=NAM MO SAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.12/5/2019.
