Understanding Buddhism in a simple way
Dhammapada.
________________________________
Dhammapada ( Dhammapada ) is one of the most ancient texts of Buddhism. Kinh is considered as a way of presenting simple and clear Buddhist teachings, which everyone can understand and help with daily practice; At the same time, it is considered to be a magnificent piece of Indian literature, in the form of poetry called kavya .
Beijing belongs to the State Ministry of Economics ( Khuddaka-nikaya , Ministry of short), located in the canon ( Sutta-pitaka ), one of the Tripitaka scriptures ( Tipitaka ), ie the pali scriptures.
In order to accurately locate the Dhammapada , let us imagine the three big ones, which have been gathered together the inscriptions on the leaves by the disciples of the Buddha, after many repentance, oral tradition from generation to generation. Portuguese first contains canon ( Sutta-pitaka ) includes lectures by the Buddha, Bodhi second contains the Vinaya ( Vinaya-pitaka ) includes precepts, and a third set contains Abhidharma ( Abhidhamma-pitaka ) consisting of all Comment writing later. Canon of more than 10000 texts, divided into 5 Department: School of Ministry of Economy ( Digha-Nikaya ), Central Business (Majjhima-Nikaya ), Samyutta Beijing ( Samyutta-nikaya ), Anguttara Beijing ( Anguttara-nikaya ) , and State Ministry of Economics ( Khuddaka-nikaya ). The Ministry of Economy consists of 15 parts, of which the second is the Dhammapada .
The Dhammapada commonly written in Pali, near the English is the language used by maghadi Shakyamuni Buddha, because he usually lived in the kingdom Maghada , ie the province of Bihar today. There have been many translations in many languages, especially Vietnamese, from the translation and commentary of Bhikkhu Narada by Pham Kim Khanh , from Han by HT Thien Sieu , from the song by HT Chau Minh , HT Chau Chau , Tinh Minh (posted on the Internet), and poet Trong Vu .
The name of the Sutra consists of two words that are paired together: Dhamma ( Sanskrit Dharma ), the teaching of the Buddha, and pada , the "word, verse", also means "way". Thus the Dhammapada can be translated as the «Dharma Word» (the Sanskrit word Sino-Vietnamese), or «The Buddha's Way».
The encyclical consists of 423 verses, divided into 26 chapters orvagga ( vagga ), named "weak but delicate, fragrant, foolish, wise, punished, frail, peaceful, etc.". Each verse consists of 4 or 6 short sentences, which rhyme more or less.
Traditionally Theravada , where Dhammapada is widespread among the masses, each stanza the Buddha speaks in a special situation, as he Buddhaghosa ( Buddhaghosa ) commentary on the century V. The full description of the Buddha's message in every aspect, during his 45 years of preaching on the banks of the Ganges, for all who want to hear, regardless of rank or religion.
Each verse, under a simple appearance, contains a very rich content and depth. Instead of complicated words, the Buddha often uses simple images, examples taken from everyday life, leading to an intuitive intuition, such as " unstoppable winds, floods rolling the village to sleep, fire everywhere, water slides on lotus leaves, etc. ».
However, it is not only read once that one can understand all the meanings of the suttas, must read and re-read regularly and thoroughly, one can penetrate all the essence of Buddhist teachings. Every time we read, the Dhammapada teaches us a new source of vitality, at the same time to clarify the knowledge and bring a sense of calm, peace.
Because the Bible is quite long, consisting of 423 verses, we should find in it some verses, such as 30 verses. These verses are, in principle, the most typical sentences and contain the essence of Buddhism. During the presentation, we will not follow the order of the number of sentences, which will be sorted by topic.
We will begin with two verses numbered 1 and 2, in the " Song Weak ", because as we shall see, there are parallel sentences in the Sutta which are parallel but complement each other and carry the same meaning. These two verses are very important, because just beginning the Sutra, the general framework of Buddhism has been clearly defined: it is all due to the mind, created by the human mind.
1. Mind leads the way.
Mind is the master, create.
Speaking or acting,
With mind impure,
Brain loss follows,
As the car followed the cow.
(tiếng pali: Manopubbangama dhamma
handsettha manomaya
Manasa ce padutthena
bhasati va karoti va
Tato nam dukkhamanveti
cakkam va vahato padam.)
2. Mind leads the way.
Mind is the master, create.
Speaking or acting,
With pure thought,
An immediately followed,
As the ball does not leave the picture.
Following topics are a good reason to take the path of Dharma (Dhamma ). The first is the comment that this world is drowned indukkha , which is the first of the Four Truths ( cattari-aryia-sacca ).
146. How can you laugh,
When is the fire burning everywhere?
The darkness stays round,
Why not find the light?
Meanwhile, it is doubtful that being born as a human, living in this world and listening to the Buddha's teachings, is a privilege, a rare privilege:
182. Difficult to change to be human,
Difficult to live between life!
Difficult to listen to the Dharma,
Difficult to replace the Buddha!
194. Replace the Buddha,
Fun French to be lectured!
Fun to increase harmony,
Harmonious, happy!
The difference between fools and people is very clear. Stupid people who do not realize they are attracted to the toxins like craving, anger and ignorance, and do not follow the path of virtue. The wise, conversely aware of that, and practice the Dharma .
62. "My son, my property,"
The fool is far away,
I do not even have one,
Where do you come from?
47. Flower pickers,
Tam contagious drunk,
Death will pull the harness,
As the village floods fell asleep.
While :
25. Through the effort,
Self-restraint, earnest living,
He built the island,
Flood waters are difficult to overflow.
20. Less classic,
But following the Dharma,
Eradicate greed,
Right understanding, liberation mind,
Not accepting both life,
An enjoy the virtue.
Thus, one can choose between two lifestyles, two attitudes:
110. Despite living up to a hundred years,
Lack of self-control,
Not by living one day,
In virtue, meditation.
102. Oil chanting a hundred verses,
But no benefit,
Not with a French sentence
Listen to the net.
The diligent practice on the path of virtue will lead to a state of peace and liberty:
81. As a solid rock,
No wind shakes,
Moral not agitated,
In praise of the cheers.
170. As the bubbles drift down the river,
Like the illusion.
Seeing the world as such,
Death does not see me.
The important point, and also the difference from the revelation religions, is that people must be aware that it all depends on themselves. Each one is the only author of his suffering as well as his liberation:
165. Do yourself evil,
Self-pollution,
Do not do evil yourself,
Self-purification yourself.
Pure or not, by yourself,
No one is pure.
160. Save yourself,
Who can save me?
A good man,
It is hard to find.
276. Try yourself,
As Lai is just a teacher.
The practitioner perseveres,
Will escape the Marquis.
This effort is a victory over oneself, glorious than all victories. That is self-subdued, self-control is body, speech, mind:
103. Oil on the battlefield,
Win thousands of enemy troops,
Not by self-defeating,
Worship is the supreme.
35. Hard heart, quick
Cultivation by sex,
Substitute for the mind,
The mind is peaceful.
361. Take control of the body!
Take control over words!
Substitute substitution!
Take care of all!
Bhikkhu self-made,
Get out of suffering.
The things that must be controlled, to be subdued are three toxins, the three roots ( mula ) lead to suffering, ie lobha , dosa and ignorance ( avijja ):
251. Fire of fire,
Nippers with a knob,
The net with si grid,
Which river by river.
The first is craving:
215. Devotion to sorrow,
Craving fear,
Who ceases craving,
Out of fear, sorrow.
199. Happiness is lived,
Do not be greedy.
Between the hungry,
I live without desire.
336. Who lives in the world,
Overcoming craving,
Melancholy will separate,
As water slides lotus leaf.
The second is anger, which often arises from lack of sympathy
Misconduct and possible violence:
252. Finding faults is easy,
It is very difficult to make mistakes.
The meticulous line drawer,
I always hide.
129. Sticks, everyone is afraid,
Losing the network, everyone is terrified.
Get us thinking,
Do not kill, do not kill!
201. Victory over hatred,
Defeat suffering.
Give up all wins.END=NAM MO SAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.THE MIND OF ENLIGHTENMENT.VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=GOLDEN LOTUS MONASTERY=AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.5/7/2018.
