Love you do not harm people.
I - Introduction
This sutra is the essay of Sona elders in Udâna, one of the 15 volumes of the Sutta (Khuakanikâya); Pâli Text Society, London 1948, p. 47.
The content of this short prayer is simple. The first is the determination of the couple Pasenadi-Mallikâ: for ordinary people no one is more merciful than the body. The second is the Buddha's recognition of the above determination, moderate advice but the meaning of the Buddha: "Love yourself, do not harm people."
Through these two ideas, we find a common truth and a noble lesson.
1 - The common truth : in this world, except the sages, the superheroes who forget themselves for him, no one does not think and love others. That is not to mention the killers of others to build their own happiness. Often people worry about their own happiness and then worry about the happiness of others. That is not to mention the outsiders seem to worry about the welfare of others such as wife, husband, children, grandchildren, etc ... but inside with the intention of worrying for their own happiness. This is a very common truth, if observed in a delicate way can be easily seen.
Because it is a common truth, the Buddha not only admits but also considers the rational situation. Being beings are not beings are not obstinate self. In other words, because of the attachment of self to new beings. Thus, to some extent, one can love oneself, one's family, one's own society if this love does not harm the individual, the family of another.
2 - High School Lesson : Because there are many people for the sake of their own family, their society, which harms the individual, family and society of others, so the Buddha invokes the human mind: "human beings need to see life and rights another's life is equal to his life and his right to life. " Because the life and the right of all living beings are equal, the Buddha advises: "Love me, do not harm me." This principle is very reasonable, nothing so worth that people can not be practiced. If one likes to survive, they can practice according to the precept not killing, respect the life of others. If one sees that material conditions are what they need to live, they can follow the doctrine of not stealing, respecting the property and living environment of others.
Although it is moderate, but this ethics still contains noble character. Because the proper practice of morality is the basic condition of elevating man to the sage, as the scriptures say:
Is not sage
If damage to the soul,
Not harmful to all beings
Newly deserving sage
If damage to the soul,
Not harmful to all beings
Newly deserving sage
(French 270)
This respect for life and the right to life must not be applied in the social and international spheres. It is like: "Love yourself, do not harm people" should be considered the Buddha's teaching - enlightened - completely liberated. II - Chief of
I heard something like this: a time Bhagavan in his garden Anathapindika (Anathapindika) Jeta 's Grove (Caucasian), at Savatthi (Xa-defense). At that time, King Pasenadi of Kosala and Queen Mallikâ went upstairs. Then Kosala king Pasenadi said to Queen Mallik:
- Mallik, is there anybody more lovely than my body?
- Sir, with no one else more lovely than my body. But Sir, is there anyone else more lovely than my body?
- Mallik, there is no one else more lovely than my body.
Then King Pasenadi of Kosala went downstairs and went to the Great Hall; After attaining enlightenment and sat down on one side; Sit down on one side, then King Pasenadi white gold:
- White Buddha, when up the palace with Queen Mallikâ do you ask Queen Mallikâ: Mallikâ, with love khanh anyone else more lovely than your body? Then Queen Mallikâ said to her, "Great King, with no one else more lovely than my body." Hearing this, White said, I told Queen Mallik: "Mallik, I do not have who is more lovely than his body? "
Then he, then, when knowing this meaning, said the following verse:
My
heart is more loving than I can not see anyone
Because I'm loving more than I
should love myself, do not harm me. END=NAM MO SAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.THE MIND OF ENLIGHTENMENT.VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=GOLDEN LOTUS MONASTERY=AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.4/7/2018.
