Buddhist Sects in India Buddhist Sects In India

--- o0o ---
 Chapter VII

The Doctrine of Group III
consists of the Mahasasaka, the Sarvastivada, the Dharmaguptaka,
and others.

In the Pali tradition, group III includes the Mahimsasaka and the sects of this sect, the Dhammaguttika, the Sabbaththivadin, the Kassapika, (Sankantika), and the Suttavadin. According to the Pali tradition, the local culture is the branch that separates the chief
Old men among the tribes of this lagoon. Then from the Land Development Department of the Mahasarakha Sect and gradually the other sects.
Vasumitra said a little differently about the appearance of these Third Order sects. He claimed that Sarvastivada was the oldest branch of the Sarvastivada, and later the Mahimsasaka, Kasyapia and Samkrantivadin, a century apart. Derived from Mahimsasaka is the Dharmaguptakas.
Thus the Pali tradition differs from Vasumitra in that tradition that the Mhimsasaka appeared first. The difference can be explained as follows: A document describing the doctrine of this branch shows that there are two branches of the Divine Land, one coming first and the next. When listing the tribes, Vasumitra left the Department of the Divine Land first. However, he said that the followers of the First Republic had the same opinion than the Elders, and the Sarvastivada. It is possible that the Pali tradition only knew of the prevalence of the local culture, so of course this tradition placed the Sunnah in front of the Sarvastivada.
The Mahisasakas appear before:
The Mahisasakas have emerged from the time of the First Conclave, thus giving them great premonition. The books of the Vinaya of the Elders recognize the difference of opinion
The Mahisasakas and the Dharmas - Because of the seven precepts of the Dhammapada and the eight precepts of the Dharmakaya - Mahakassapa and the Elder Purana of Dakkhinagiri (near Rajagarha). The Venerable Vinaya of the Venerable Bhikkhu is especially attached to the Purana who is determined to hold a second edition of the Sutra which is attributed to the suggestion of the Elder Mahayana, with the introduction of the Law Tibetan seven things about food. This clearly shows that Purana and his disciples organized themselves into a group that was perhaps not known at the time as the Mahisasaka. Professor Przyluski talked about this occurrence in his book "The Concluding Remembrance in Rajagrha (p. 319), which is based on the Mahāyāsaka Vinaya and the Dharma texts in Chinese.
