Tabo Monastery (northern India), "Ajanta" of the Himalayas.

Tabo Monastery  - also known as "Himalayan Ajanta" - is located in a very dry and cold area at an altitude of 3,050 meters in the Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh, in northern India.

Unlike other monasteries in the valley (located on the hill), Tabo Monastery is at the bottom of the valley. Previously this area was part of Tibet.

Tabo Monastery was built in 996 AD, is a complex area consisting of nine stupas, 23 towers, a monk's office and an extension of nuns' houses and rooms. The area is surrounded by acoustic walls with an area of ​​6,300 square meters. Around the complex are temporary monastic style buildings. The steep cliffs surrounding are a series of caves used as the residence of the monks.
