Sanchi relics, the pride of Indian Buddhism.
Sanchi San Kyu San (San Ky Dai San) is a quiet hill located in central Madhya Pradesh, India. Here, on the top of the hill are the relics of the towers, temples, and monastery surrounds dating back to the 3rd century BC.
Sanchi is the pride of Buddhism, a dignified place for ancient Buddhist studies and for pilgrims. This is where convergence of the ancient architecture complex displays the Buddhist legends in the sculpture. Buddhism is not represented in the statues of Sanchi but in the image, as a tradition in early Buddhism. The Lotus Sutra represents the day of the Buddha's Exodus, the manifestation of the Buddha's wisdom, the wheel of the Buddha's teachings, and the relics of Nirvana and Resurrection for sentient beings. Sanchi was largely forgotten after the 13th century until 1818, when General Taylor, a British army officer, discovered half of the area was buried in the ground. Then in 1912, Archbishop John Marshal ordered the restoration of buildings in the area.
Some important places in Sanchi:
1. Stupa Relics No. 1 (San Kyai Stupa) : Diameter 36.5 meters and height 16.4 meters, this is one of the oldest stone architecture in India. With a giant hemispherical structure, the relics of the Tower are magnificent. The paved path was worn out and polished by the steps of Buddhist pilgrims. The original tower was built in the style of the relics built by the King Ashoka (Ash Palace), the tower was rebuilt in the 3rd and 2nd century BC. The final part and additions to this tower are four magnificent ornamental hewn portraits or Toranas. The first gate of the four entrances is the south gate. Then, chronologically, the North Gate, East Gate and West Gate. The South Gate symbolizes the birth of the Buddha by magnificent carvings. The north gate, surrounded by the wheel of samsara, sketches the magic with the Buddha as told in the legendary Jataka (the legend of the Buddha was born). 2. Stupa relic No. 2 : Dating back to the 2nd century BC, located on the edge of the hill with the most fascinating features of the surrounding stone corridors.
3. Stupa Relic # 3 : Located in the northeast of the Stupa, where the relics of Sariputra and Mahamogyāna's two famous disciples are found inside the rooms. here. Surrounded by semi-circular domes, as if to signify religious importance, with a polished stone front. Only one main exit. This structure was built between 150-140 BC.
4. Tower office Ashoka (Asoka) : with 4 lion's head, which was built in the 3rd century BC, located near the south gate of the Relic Stupa. Thus, similar to the elaborately carved pillars of Sarnath, the lions do not support a "Wheel of Samurai". A unique feature of the pillar is that it is polished.
5. Medieval Temples (4th century AD) : Considered one of the oldest architectural designs in India. Includes a room with a simple flat roof that is supported with a front porch.
6. Temple No. 18 : A Chaitya Hall, located in front of the South Gate of the entire Stupa, dating back approximately to the 7th century AD, consists of boulders cut in the Karla caves in Maharashtra. .
7. Monastery and Temple 45 : It was built between the 7th and 11th centuries, showing many modern architecture. In the decoration path here, we can see the Buddha image with an oval halo.
8. Big bowl : Carved from a large stone, containing food provided by the monks in Sanchi.
September to March every year is the best time to visit the Sanchi monument complex. These are the months with the most pleasant cool weather of the year.
