HAO TAM EXPORTERS.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
According to the Phuoc Dien Sutra, recorded in the Law of Sa Di, a philanthropist is a person whose heart desires to like out of three houses: 1- Secular House 2 - House of affliction 3- House of Three Realms (Sex, Form, Formless). In here, the following two houses are important and the purpose of the renunciant looking out. Why? Because if you just leave the secular house, you just shave your head, go to the temple, wear a brown robe, wear robes, recite a few sutras, say a few words of the Buddha's teachings ... but the spiritual life does not come out. from the house of afflictions, still immersed in the river deep five senses, still having fun at the fire house of the Three Realms, not knowing, and not wanting to get out, the Buddha called this just a layman idiot means a homeless person, not the monastic monastic order.
So, from a layperson who wants to become a monastic monk, a monk who is revered by everyone, deserves all the offerings, farming for the faithful, or a Monastics must always remember and promote 5 virtues that when starting out of the secular house, developed a mind.
That is:
1- Generate mind because of ambition, bringing up the Dao:
Dao understands here is the Liberation, the Wisdom. Normally, lay people desire more spiritual ordination than reason. For example, like the yellow robe on the imaginary shoulder like the Buddha, like to walk leisurely, like a peaceful life without any worries, like to hear the hum of praise, like the sound of the temple bell ringing. At night, I like the quiet, quiet space, I like to be called by everyone, as respectful as the Teacher ... a lot of the likes are also temporarily called "gentle gentleness", that people even mistakenly think it is means they Like. In fact, the monks who follow the Northern Buddhism all take the surname of Thich as y and follow the To Dao An, saying that according to the Buddha, the Sakya family (transcribed from Sanskrit is Sakya), so the disciple of the Buddha. They have to follow the Buddha's surname, which means they like it, but in the lay family, they cannot Like.
Not to mention, liking such things is not wrong, but not yet won against the noble ideals of the monk and should not be the main factor to enter the Path of Liberation and Wisdom, it is just a predestined thing. only religion. Like such "light" things is not right, let alone ordained to enjoy the raw material? Moreover, if you like, you will get bored, once you get what you like; Or will carry them, then weigh them down, stray away, the road ahead dimly unknown ...?
Being ordained is because of ambition, carrying the Dao, which means having reason to consider, having attained the affinities (according to Buddhism called the current seed) and of course at least the young enough maturity can be. What ambitious? Embracing in your heart a noble liberating ideal that is liberating afflictions bound in the mind and other things, such as money, fame, beauty ... but ordained is the environment. good for me to easily perfect it completely, in the spirit of renunciation of all worldly temptations, not flee from the world to enter the temple. First of all, liberate negativity, calm one's mind and body, to become a good moral example for everyone to follow, thereby guiding everyone to acquire wisdom from the Buddha that you have experienced. to together build a happy society, nation, world. Selfless selflessness.
2- Abandon the good form of the world, adapting to worldly clothing.
The worldly people focus on the form from body hair to clothes, always take care and pride in it, enjoy it, enslave it, work hard for it, waste money, waste time Because of it, The beauty of silk ... / the tooth of the hair is of human origin ... Sometimes crazy in the pleasure of the appearance, I'd rather be hungry but not tear ... in the end suffering for it.
Renunciation renounces all temptations of the five senses, in which appearance beauty is the easiest to degrade people, so a person who is ordained according to Buddha is according to the form of Buddha, makes "bad" a part of the form. At least on the body is to shave the head, different from other people, in addition to wear clothes with rags, pick them up from the places they throw away such as graveyards, landfills ... for laundry, sewing it becomes a piece of junk of all colors, then darken it is called ruined color to wear enough to cover the body, from heat and cold ... enough health to practice. It is the surrender of the world of the Buddha's time in life, not outside the purpose of making the monk gradually let go of the desire to form himself to the maximum. Based on the basic spirit of being bored with the appearance of foreign bodies, distracting religious minds, people laugh at people, monks nowadays cannot wear patchy clothes, collecting the old seeds, pay more attention to the form, especially in the present era that prefers the outside to the inside! The ancients used to say torn paper must keep margins, wear torn shirt, faded medical plate but not torn soul, morality not silver. There is no need to dress, royal attire, does not increase the true value but also counteracts!
The law also clearly stated examples to remind the monk such as: King Vo of the Ha dynasty wore bad clothes, Mr. Cong Ton wore blankets, princesses deserve to enjoy beautiful clothes, but also know how to moderately like So the situation is that the monastic renounces its attachment to worldly materialistic desires but also dispels the purple cardinal, causing people to lose respect for the Sangha image ?!
3- Cut attachment, renounce the body, not the body does not like:
Grandparents, parents, spouses, children, brothers and friends are organic conditions to us, also the chains binding the renunciant's feet for a common cause, for mutual love. people. So, Buddha chose the path of renunciation is to cut off, end his selfishness, his family, not cut off the benevolent grace of meaning to common love. If you think that renunciation is unintentional, merciful, meaningless, then it is completely wrong, but it is converting your own love into common love, common sense. The theory is, but practice is a difficult problem.
Nowadays, because of the karma to pay, many monks are still tied to, burdened with family, and even think that they go to practice to pay their relatives' debts, like a man who is a hundred of them. be asked ... or to serve parents too much, while living, they take care of them, thinking that Virtue is Buddha's virtue, When the church died, it made the church to grow up, organized a riot! Buddhism pays great attention to filial piety, but all four gifts are equal. Anyway, remember and follow the example of the Buddha, do not waste time, misuse the money of the nuns to serve your relatives and think that the monk's filial piety is such a prejudice and wrong view! If so, is it better to be a layperson understand the Dharma, make money with righteousness, worship your parents, and help your loved one, is it better than a monk or not? Therefore, it is not advisable to let the thought "for relatives", even if it is a parent, obstruct the step for a common cause for everyone, including one's own relatives. There is no pain to give up a loved one, especially a parent, but no joy is sacrificed for everyone to be happy. That trade-off is so great,
4- Willing to give up his life for the sake of religion:
Because of achieving liberation, the wisdom of the Tao, that one has given up all the feelings of relatives, worldly pleasures, and canceled a good form, it is enough to know how precious that Tao is! It is better for us to perish, not to lose our religion, to corrupt our religion, and to destroy the pure image of Dao. This religion is the ultimate inheritance of the Buddha through many generations of accumulation, is the Precepts, Samadhi, Wisdom, not the pagoda, the temple, charity institutions, etc. family with their own hands groping, taking "those treasures that are used by the means of predestination, are also willing to sacrifice, preserve and protect their true value if they are robbed by other forces. go. The most forbidding thing is to borrow life training, sell cheaply the reputation of the Tao, this is why lay people understand the Dharma, even if the monk is named. They are loyal !
In the Law, in the past, a novice went alms to the house of a female benefactor who was forced to break the precepts, and the novice would rather keep the religion pure and tie her neck. More than half a century ago, Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc and a number of monks and nuns burned themselves to protect their religion. Today, the lay people before wanting to ordain, and the "are" renunciates if they cannot be willing to give up their lives for the Tao, at least don't make it too cheap. If not, then it will only spend a life of chaos, extremely lossy life, like "I have been traveling to the East Sea ..."
5- The determination to pray for a great religion, because everyone is everywhere, not just himself.
It is necessary to understand that the vast direction here is not the professional way of doing charity, creating blessings for the Tanh, it is just a means of propagating the renunciation. If that is the case, the lay people do much better and do not need to ordain for that way. The homeowners have ample human and financial conditions to do charity. Typically billionaires, entrepreneurs ... contemporaries, they are doing and will do, openly and quietly.
The monastic takes a lot of time to do these things, but gradually less time to practice, he is afraid of the initial deviation that he intended. For example, the skill of locating the ship, deviating a little bit, still seeing the shore is still right, it turns out the farther you go, the farther you go, how many people are on the lost train. More specifically, charity in order to create good fortune, still suffering; The vast path that the monk needs to pray for is the result of a non-smuggling, liberating affliction, is the result of Bodhi becoming a Buddha. If you want to do that, you must try hard to practice in parallel with the practice of the Six Bodhisattva. In order to cultivate people to practice together, I am happy everyone will be happy together, not leaving home is to be happy alone, ignoring ... life story!
Through the above 5 conditions, it is also the ideal of a kind person. These things, young, middle-aged or retired laypeople need to know clearly, to determine the mind before wanting to take the step on the path of complete liberation, transforming sentient beings. If you feel that you are not capable and energized according to these 5 things, it will be great if you stay in seclusion, stay away from life stories, do not need to leave home, be a layman like "old Duy Ma" is too great, or king Ashoka, Mr. Le Dinh Tham, Thieu Chuu, Chanh Tri ... until a normal Buddhist still receives the five senses, fasting to recite the Buddha's name, chanting the words to preserve the 5 precepts, practicing the ten virtues and maintaining the Dharma even better!
Don't see Buddhism as a hospital where to stay for treatment, a rest home to rest in the late afternoon, and even less a paradise of bliss to enjoy flowers ... although Buddhism has plenty there are remedies that cure physical and mental suffering. But I have to see the ordination to become a soldier, a general, a talented soldier, not lame sick, the enemy came to fight? Not to mention, the other generals went around and around!
Every year, seeing the delegation of students and classes coming forward to the ordination, my heart is confused and happy. Glad to see that there are inheritance of the seniors, connecting the lights of the Dharma to enlighten the world, but sad to know that they have communicated their thoughts, made up their courage to accept the commitment or not? Or when I miss the ordination, only the body, or "use half in half", and accept the two words "stop it", religion is not beneficial and life is not helpful!
In the book scene, Quy Son's Patriarch once reminded post-graduate about the noble meaning of the monk : The monk is the one who takes steps to transcend the directions, the mind, the body is different from the mundane, to prosper. The line of Saints, demoralizing military ghosts, applying the practice of repaying the four gifts, removing afflictions, helping the three realms.
